Character Discussion Jimbe didn’t join the Strawhats for fishmen, he did it for himself

This is a common misunderstanding that i noticed in the community .

The whole point behind jimbe’s flashback with the remaining sun pirates, was that jimbe devoted his life for the fishmen, he made alliances with pirates that he hates , he made alliance with the WG that he despises , for the sake of his people . But what he did was enough , he needs to have his own life . He needs to stop caring for others

Alaadin said “you were always caring for us , you need to care for yourself ”

It is such a beautifully-written parallel to nami’s situation with her village.

She devoted her life to save her village from the fishmen. The people of the village encouraged her to stop caring for them and have her own life .

Missing these details can cut a big part of the reading experience

I think he respects the SHs expecially for their actions in FI, but ultimately he mostly joined in that he wanted to struggle for the destiny of the Fishmen and that should have entailed fighting the Government more directly by taking on this adventure.

If we think about it , the government benefited the FI more than harming it , in the last 200 years at least

don’t forget that until now , no one know that the one piece directly hurts the government
