Just had a few thoughts reading 1043, and after reading so many people talk about the whole Joy boy situation.
In my opinion, Joyboy did actually exist in the void century and did whatever he did, promised what he wanted to promise and whatnot.
Luffy is Luffy, and Oda as an author has always showed an undeniable love for the character and his ideals. (The best example is when he refuses to know what the one piece is, but there are countless others.)
This said, the only point I want to make is that when Zunisha refers to Joyboy returning, he is of course referring to Luffy, but not to the fact that they are the same person, but just that they carry the same "spirit" or using the word of One Piece, Luffy carries Joy boys ideals.
I don't think that the whole reincarnation really will prove true, because I don't see Oda sacrificing 100 volumes of Luffy wanking for a twist.
