Questions & Mysteries Joyboy's name and the meaning of D

#1
It's not my theory, but I will share here:

it is quite plausible that D means dawn. The dawn is very important for the story:
(1) Luffy was born in Dawn Island;
(2) Romance Dawn was a oneshot published by oda before op;
(3) Romance Dawn is also the name of the first arc.
(4) Toki prophecy is about the dawn;
(5) Lilith letter talks about the dawn

But everyone knows about this stuff.

Basically the idea is that Dawn was the name of a pirate crew: Dawn Pirates. The original members of the dawn pirates had these surnames: jaguar, monkey, gol, portgas, rocks, trafalgar, marshall and nefertari.

Their jolly roger is a mysterious symbol of the sun that appears repeatedly in one piece:

Eight small circles around a large circle. It's appear in alabasta, skypia and wano.
Each circle represent one of the members surname. But its nine circle and 8 known surnames, thats why I think oda will show a last one D family. Joyboy's surname is represented by the big circle in the middle. And what surname is that? Jaguar.

Imu Sama has joyboy's strawhat (the original one) and that strawhat is big. The hat fits well on a giant, so joyboy was a giant. But joyboy was not from Elbaf. During Robin's falshback Saul explain that his family is not from Elbaf. But why oda would give such a random information (and apparently not important) in such a important flashback?
If the theory that binks no sake tells the story about the void century is right, then is plausible theorize that joyboy is binks. So joyboy name would be 'Jaguar Binks' (JB are the same initials of both 'jaguar binks' and 'joyboy').
At some point the members of the crew put D in their names, to make their descendants carry the will of the dawn pirates in their names. So joyboy name became
'Jaguar D. Binks'.

I believe the pirate dawn's jolly roger symbolizes the sun, but also sake cups. Each circle is a sake cup. The big circle is a big sake cup and binks being a giant would need a big one sake cup.

And dont forget that oda didnt kill saul for some important reason (important because oda has no problems in kill flashback characters).

I love everything about this.
Good theory!

I've also made this theory about D meaning Dawn and that there will be 7-8 families years ago
https://worstgen.alwaysdata.net/forum/threads/d-stands-for-dawn.455/
Recently I started believing there's 9-10 D. families

I like the part where you talk about Dawn Pirates.
Might make senses that there's a Giant D. family now. I never thought about Joyboy might be Jaguar D or that his name might be Binks.
Joyboy crew ressembles SHs (9 or 10 members)

Binks no sake tells the story about a crew (dawn pirates) going to deliver sake in several places.

"We are pirates sailing through the Sea!"
confirming that the song is about a pirate crew

What is this sake? It's not a literal sake, actually its kittekou, a mysterious metal produced in wano. Coincidentally, kittekou is written with the kanjis of 'metal' and 'sake'. The idea is that kitekkou is the raw material from which poneglyphs are made. We already know that the poneglyph was made in wano. And now we know that a member of D (nefertari d lily) is responsible for spreading the poneglyphs around the world.

"The birds sing as they draw circles in the sky!"
the song talk about circles...

"Beat upon the drums"
drums of the liberation is also mentioned

"It's time to ship out Bink's brew!
Wave good-bye, but don't you cry
Our memories remain
Our days are but a passing dream, everlasting though they seem"

the crew was disbanded, but their "days" still remains. Its a reference of their will (D).

"after all is said and done
you end up a skeleton
so spread your tale, from dawn till dusk, upon these foamy seas!"

"so spread your tale" refers to the full story that rio poneglyph tells. And rio ponelyph is located in laugh tale.

My theory is not very good, but probably the worst of them is D stands for Dracula:milaugh::milaugh:
But your thread is good:cheers:
the worst ive seem is that D stands for 'Dragon'. So dragon's full name is Monkey Dragon Dragon

D being Dawn is so in your face that I highly doubt that’s what it is

imo it’s a symbol, it’s not supposed to be short for anything

And Alabasta, Skypea and Wano are and were always affiliated with the D.

I quite like this theory. I hadn't even noticed that the Symbol of those 9 circles appeared multiple times.

It is unfortunate that Oda writes in Japanese, as some small references are going to surely get lost in translation, without us even noticing.

Very interesting and plausible theory.

But. How does the smiling while dying thing fit into your concept?

The original crew members weren't related so that (let's call it) character trait can't be passed on by genes.

I'm gonna take a guess and say that they gonna need a "kozuki" alongside then which will be taken by our favorite schizo big boobs girl yamato.

When ace said that you can give the "D" to anyone you want, its quite obvious that most "Ds" were awarded this name by an original one.

Yeah, the sun/dawn symbol is inside kozuki clan symbol.

Thank you for linking this. This is a very good theory, I could see this being true.
