Remember Naoya? Yeah..

I mean Naoya was written to be a disappointment.

He is meant to stand for everything that the Zenin clan is - incompetent fools who place value on tradition, cursed techniques over everything else all the while halting progress and getting proud about unearned honour.

Only Naobito kept that clan relevant, no wonder he was willing to pay a premium for Megumi. The rest are all meant to be jobbers to show the difference narratively between Toji, Maki and the clan, the people who restricted them from progressing.

My point is this fake hype was on purpose from Gege, just to further reinforce that the entire Zenin clan are a bunch of jobbers. Only Naobito, Toji, Maki and Megumi were worth anything - Naobito became the clan head, Toji would've become the clan head if he was valued as per the databook, Maki wants to become the clan head and Megumi was brought in to become the clan head in the future.
