Kid is a foil to Luffy and Shanks
Luffy and Shanks won’t bother to destroy weaklings, unless they actually do something that hurts their friends. Kid is different. If someone hurts his ego, he will destroy them or try to destroy them, even if it puts his friends in danger.
I think the full completion of Kid’s character arc is for him to have a mock town moment.
In Ch 1. Shanks got spit on and laughed at by the bandits. However he did nothing. But when higuma hurt his friend, Shanks crushed the bandits.
The same with Luffy and Bellamy in mock town.
I think the ultimate completion of Kid’s character arc is giving him such a moment. Shanks destroyed his crew at elbaf. Kid’s dream is dead. Some of his crew might have died. Imagine if after that, Kid stops caring about his ego. He no longer cares about fighting people unworthy of his time. We see some giants spit on him and laugh at him for getting destroyed. But he does nothing. Then later when these same people attack his friends, he obliterates them.
This was the lesson Shanks taught Luffy in chapter 1. And I think it could very well be the lesson he taught Kid in 1079.
