I think I've come to the conclusion that while Zoro will always be the 2nd most important character to the plot, Kid and Law will always be more prominent within the one piece world. Wano kinda confirmed that to me.
Kid and Law defeating a yonko and having equal bounties to Luffy is just one part of a larger trend with how Oda portrays these characters. In Punk Hazard, Law fought vergo while Zoro fought Monet. In Dressrosa, Law fought Doflamingo while Zoro fought Pica; ultimately giving Law a greater bounty.
You can argue all you like about the powerlevels of Luffy, Law, Kid, and Zoro, but the way Oda treats them is very clear. Kid and Law are portrayed as Luffy's rivals, they will fight stronger opponents than zoro, and they will receive better portrayal(bounties).
This is why I think that around the time Zoro becomes WSSM, Oda will distinctly portray Law as a mixed fighter and not just a swordsman, in order for the rivalry to make sense. Again, this has nothing to do with powerscaling, Oda just isn't going to directly say Zoro>Law. He hasn't done so for the past 500 chapters.
But beyond Zoro and the WSSM, I think it makes a lot of sense for Oda to take Law's character in this direction. Law has always been something of a mixed fighter. Moves like: tact, gamma knife, mes, and counter shock don't use a sword at all, despite being some of law's strongest moves. During his flashback, we saw how he was not only trained in swordsmanship by diamante, but also martial arts by Lao G and marksmanship by Gladius. Yet at the moment, Law doesn't seem to be very good at using those other styles of fighting.
imo, this is a flaw, because those styles would greatly increase Law's effectiveness with the ope ope no mi. Like take gamma knife for example, while this move is extremely strong, due to law's close combat skills, it isn't too difficult to counter. But if Law were to master martial arts, this could be very different.
Guns would imo give Law's style the greatest boost. He would be able to increase his teleportation skills by using shambles on his own bullets. He can teleport himself literally anywhere, redirect bullets with takt, and even coat bullets with kroom in order to make the attack even harder to counter.
If Law's bounty is going to keep up with Luffy's in the future, as it has been in the past, there's going to be a good chance that Law will pass the 5 billion berry mark. imo, it doesn't make sense for Law to be able to do this via DF alone. Whitebeard, who had a similarly overpowered DF, was a master of both hand to hand combat, and using his bisento. It only makes sense for Law to be extremely powerful without his fruit as well, by the EoS.
