While the fans are mostly to blame for this because they ask for things like this but the first information given to fans and how agendas are pushed based on this really mess up how the content is actually perceived. Even though the real event has a different interpretation but the agendas (slander/hype) pushed mostly prevail in any discourse. Rarely is it overturned. The latest chapter is the biggest example of this. Maybe the annoying Luffy fans pushed the other fandoms to desperately push any anti Luffy agenda they could get. By just giving a simple rating of 5.5, one of the leakers really got some backlash.
Now lets bring the context to this 5.5 rating and why I think this is wrong. Firstly we should be clear that the RDT only know of Scopper as Colons father (Ripleys husband). Luffy was surprised that the old man even wanted Luffy to take the key from him. It turns from a game of tag to the old man attacking Luffy suddenly which is why Luffy is seen calling out haki, Luffy is surprised that the old man is using haki on the key and then hits him with it. Even after this Luffy is still only trying to take the key from Gaban and then gets the key stuffed in his mouth and kicked away. Next thing Gaban brings out the axes and launches his attack. Luffys only fault here is that he was caught off guard. Nobody expected the goofy old man to turn this game of tag into anything serious.
The reaction from Luffy and Zoro is justified, this was not a duel, the vicious attack was uncalled and unexpected of, if somebody wants to kill by doing things like this then there is no reason to hold back.
