One piece has a LOT of interesting characters but sadly luffy isn't one of them, his personality haven't changed ever since the First chapter and i feel like he is still the same dumb character despite 1000+ chapters have passed.

There is no surprise that law, zoro, mihawk, Blackbeard and shanks are so popular, when you compare these aforementioned characters with luffy you quickly realize how boring he us.

One piece succeeded despite luffy, not because of him.

Calling Mihawk and Shanks characters while dissing Luffy for being a bad one is either great satire or peak stupidity

M and S maybe have a better design and look cool, but that isn't a character.

Zoro (Pre TS) had it. Law has it for the most part. Even Blackbeard to some extent.

Yet Luffy is regarded as one of the best shounen MC of all time lol.

Actually One Piece succeeds because OF Luffy.

Changing doesn't make you a good character. A good character is one which whom the spectator can deeply empathise with. Empathy makes great storytelling and Luffy is one of the best vessel for empathy.

Plus, Luffy is not just a random fun main character like Goku, he has deep values that doesn't make him a one dimensional character.

Mix all of that with great storytelling, great choices by the character, a strong narrative arc, failure and default and you create an amazing character.

Luffy is that amazing character.

Americans and their incapability to digit full words...

Mihawk and Shanks have more character development than Luffy while having thousands panels less.

How does luffy go about making his allies?
Idealism. The same pure blind idealism that a lot of protags have. That style of idealism that's contagious. Like take DR for example. He entered tournament, met Rebecca, because of his childlike innocence, idealism, and honesty, he instantly makes friends. But because he is FAR from an idiot when it comes to emotional intelligence, he picks up where people are hiding emotions/their determination/their own wills.

Contrast it to Naruto of "Your sad back story is sad, mine is also sad. Let's be sad and triumph over our pasts together." 100x.

There's a reason I think that Oda has Luffy ignore most everyone's backstories when they tell them, unless it contains key information, and always says he doesn't care of their past. Humans judge other humans on their backstories. But Luffy feels like helping for the here and now of their situation, not what they can't overcome, unless what they can't overcome effects the here and now.

Like lets party, give me meat and I will beat the bad guy for you rebecca?

Alright so luffy making an ally out of rebeccas to you has been more compelling than naruto and gaara ? Cool

You have to be a fan of idealistic characters I guess. Same thing happened with Emma from Promised Neverland. Some just don't vibe with blind idealism.

There is one area in which Luffy did evolve. He didn't lose Ace for nothing. Before the time skip he was not only dumb, but irresponsible. He could get stuck between buildings just so that his fight would be the last. After the time skip he was much more responsible. His strive to get stronger is not only because of his wish to become the pirate king, but because he understood that this was the only way he can be sure to keep his nakama safe. He is still stupid but he is much more responsible now.

Look handsome, you might dislike Naruto all you want but even at : "Obito was the coolest guy" it is more compelling that anything luffy has done
Sorry I triggered the Narutard. Talk-no-jutsu when repititive like not even different everyone basically was the same path of 'lets be sad and overcome our pasts' together. Just got boring. At least when Luffy makes allies it's always different circumstances and like I said, Oda seems to withhold the backstories for the other characters where Luffy just helps because he wants to help the present not the past of what you can't change.

Deep values lol, he has the same values of Naruto, Ichigo, deku, Itadori and all other cliche main characters in shonen.

Oh no. Compared to Luffy, Naruto's, Ichigo's or even Deku's value are scares. What I mean by deep value, is non conventional values, creative one. The way for example Luffy interact with other characters (like the way he interact with characters like Momo, or Vivi or Nami or Usopp, is completely different that anything you can see in regular shonen or even stories in general.
