Oda keeps giving him L because he also wants the reader to believe that Luffy will never 1v1 Kaido this arc. But he will.

Luffy losing to Crocodile 3 times yet nobody make a big deal out of it but Luffy losing to Kaido who is supposed to be 1v1 king yet people clowning on him. When Zoro loses to Kaido, people were hyped the shit out of that but not Luffy even though Kaido stated that he never feel this excited until Luffy came.
