Luffy's grandmama:
Long ago it was believed that Dragon's tattoo stemmed from him discovering the truth of the world or sum shit, and it was symbolic of that. But Dragon at age 17, before being privy to the dark secrets of the world already has that symbol which now is on his face, as an armband:
This is then later turned into a leg band by the time of Ohara:
Garp has nothing on him resembling this symbol/pattern at all. So the likely conclusion, imo, is that this is something from Dragon's mother. Seeing as she's likely dead at this point. A symbol that he wore to remember her, but later dawns on a more significant meaning as he leans more about the truths of the world and then proudly dawning it on his face.
Luffy's mother:
Akin to Dragon's mother, Luffy's mother also seems to have passed away bit after Luffy was born. There's theories about it being Tritoma, and I wouldn't be surprised it was tritoma seeing how much she resembles Luffy. And would connect up Kuma knowing he'd somehow survive there considering his father had already rizz'd up an amazonian before him.
Tritoma died about 13 years ago, coincidently this is also around the time that Garp took Luffy to Dandan. If this ends up being true then that'd make Luffy the son of the longest reigning Amazonian Empress that we know of. The greatest Amazon Lily Empress, ruling the island for over 25+ years. It'd make sense that she wouldn't want to abandon the Kuja to go live with Luffy since Gloriosa and Shakky had already abandoned their people.
BUT these are all just guesses. Curious to know what y'all think. In the end genetics play a heavy role in the potential of a person irl or in any series. If Luffy is to be the greatest/strongest having the most elite genetics would make sense.
