Introduction
There is the possibility that the imitation Lightning Spear technique is something Lyborick developed later on (due to his yet to be revealed inferiority complex). It may not have been his original fighting style.
During Genesis, it seems as if he didn't fight with the Lightning Spear technique, and instead used a massive spear and lightning shinsu:
I don't think he's the kind of character that would troll Kallavan by using a random technique for shits and giggles (so far, he's come across as very pragmatic). If he changed his fighting style, then there must be a reason.
Speculation
Perhaps he was defeated by a natural born Lightning Spear Bearer, and that gave him feelings of inferiority:
As a result, he tried to imitate the Lightning Spear technique to comfort himself:
This would tie in with what White said about the 4th Corps pawns being experiments created by inferior beings to comfort themselves:
Yorayo himself affirmed that Lyborick was involved in these experiments:
And just as Yorayo was able to catch White's sword, Lyborick's imitation was able to catch up to the firepower of the Lightning Spear technique:
To further support this speculation, I'd like to point out that Lyborick seemed to be sensitive about his imitation Lightning Spear technique (as seen when he questioned if Kallavan was saying that his technique was weaker than the Lightning Spear technique):
Caveats
A major implicit assumption that I've been making so far is that Lyborick's imitation of the Lightning Spear technique is tied to his inferiority complex. This is not necessarily the case.
In fact, there might be reasons to suspect otherwise:
Of course, Lyborick could always have more than one inferiority complex. Whatever other inferiorities he has aside, his imitation of the Lightning Spear technique seems to be come from a place of inferiority. If not, he wouldn't have been rankled by Kallavan's accusation that he was not a natural-born Lightning Spear Bearer (and the implication that his technique was inferior to theirs):
Conclusions
I don't think this has to be true, or is most likely the truth. I think it's simply (one of many) internally consistent explanations for why:
There are several other potential explanations for those three facts, so this isn't any sort of prediction. And it may even be the case that Lyborick's inferiority complex has nothing to do with his apparent fighting styles.

Caveats
A major implicit assumption that I've been making so far is that Lyborick's imitation of the Lightning Spear technique is tied to his inferiority complex. This is not necessarily the case.
In fact, there might be reasons to suspect otherwise:
- Lyborick participated in the creation of the 4th Army Corps experiments to assuage his feelings of inferiority.
- Considering that the experiments were all created to escape the Tower's laws, perhaps the feelings of inferiority were directed at those who naturally escape those laws (i.e. the Irregulars).
- Aria seems to have witnessed Lyborick wallowing in his inferiority.
- Aria compared White's inferiority towards Baam to Lyborick's inferiority, further suggesting that Lyborick's inferiority might be targeted at an Irregular.
- Lyborick has an inferiority complex.
- Lyborick now fights by imitating the Lightning Spear technique.
- Lyborick appeared to fight differently during Genesis.
There are several other potential explanations for those three facts, so this isn't any sort of prediction. And it may even be the case that Lyborick's inferiority complex has nothing to do with his apparent fighting styles.
