Silva and Zeno vs Chrollo/Zeno and Isaac Netero vs Meruem: Similarities

Point 1:
  • Zeno and Silva got called by the 10 Dons (a round table of politicians/criminals) in order to kill Chrollo and the Ryodan
  • Isaac Netero got called by a round table of politicians in order to kill Meruem and the Chimera Ants, then Isaac Netero called Zeno.

Point 2:
  • Silva and Zeno vs Chrollo: Zeno had the main role in the fight and Silva covered him, also, Zeno was ready to sacrifice himself in order to let Silva kill Chrollo.
  • Zeno and Isaac Netero vs Meruem: Isaac Netero had the main role in the fight and Zeno only helped him as covering in order to separate Meruem from the Royal Guards and let Isaac and Meruem go away and fight 1 vs 1 as Netero wanted, since Netero was ready to sacrifice himself with the bomb to kill Meruem (like Zeno was ready to sacrifice himself in order to let Silva kill Chrollo).

  • Chrollo didn't fight with the intent of killing Zeno and Silva but to steal their powers, as a matter of fact he used only the Fun Fun Cloth and the poison blade to trap and paralyze them, since he wanted to steal their power.
  • Meruem initially didn't fight Isaac Netero at full strength, and he didn't want to kill him in the fight, since he wanted to know his own name.

Point 3: Both fights end with an explosion.
  • Zeno and Chrollo almost died but survived, and Chrollo faked his death in order to trick the Mafia.
  • Netero died and Mereum almost died, but he got regenerated with the help of his Royal Guards.

Point 4:
  • Silva and Zeno vs Chrollo=Silva covered Zeno since Zeno is the older and "generally stronger" than Silva, however Zeno planned to sacrifice himself in order to let Silva kill Chrollo since Chrollo is "generally stronger" than him.
  • Zeno and Isaac Netero vs Meruem=Zeno covered Isaac Netero since Isaac Netero is the older and "generally stronger" than Zeno, Isaac planned to sacrifice himself since Meruem is stronger than him.
Point 5:
Meruem resurrected/regenerated after an explosion and Chrollo faked his death after an explosion, since both have a "Jesus-like symbolism" (such as Chrollo/Jesus and the 12 members/apostles).

Chrollo vs Hisoka/Isaac Netero vs Meruem: Similarities

1) Isaac Netero and the Zodiacs: The Buddha and the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac

2) Chrollo and the Ryodan: Jesus and the 12 apostles + the Astrological Calendar where Chrollo is the Sun/Jesus and the 12 members are the 12 apostles and 12 months of the year.

-The sun cross tattoo on Chrollo'head represent the Sun cross on Jesus head, and the book of Chrollo is based on the book of Jesus

-The 12 months (the Ryodan members as said in the prophecies) are related to the revolution of the earth around the Sun (Chrollo) as the 12 Zodiac Signs of the Western Zodiac:

Fights:
  • Isaac Netero (The leader/center of the Zodiacs, a group of 12 based on the Chinese Zodiac) vs Meruem (Dead and Resurrected/Regenerated after an explosion)
  • Chrollo (The leader/center of the Genei Ryodan, a group of 12 based on the Western calendar with 12 months) vs Hisoka (Dead and Resurrected/Reanimated after an explosion)
Both the "resurrection" of Meruem and Hisoka were symbolically represented as the resurrection of "Jesus" with Machi and Komugi (represented as "Mary"):

1) Meruem was the representation of a Jesus-like figure for another species, the Chimera Ants, instead of humanity (differently from the "human Jesus"). As a matter of fact, the name "Meruem" means "light" in the language of HXH.
  • Komugi and Meruem=Mary and Jesus Christ= Pietas

2) Hisoka was an unholy and evil reverse of the resurrection of Jesus: Hisoka is born on 6 June in relation to 666 typically related to the Antichrist in Movies like The Omen etc, in relation also to his opposition to Chrollo: Chrollo and 12 apostles vs Hisoka= Jesus Christ vs the Antichrist or Antichris vs Jesus Christ (can be seen in both ways) with the resurrection of Hisoka. Hisoka is born 6 June 1971 (the sixth day of June at six o'clock in the morning) like Damien Thorn in the original movie "The Omen"
  • Death and Resurrection of Hisoka (Jesus) with Mary (Machi) and the symbolical crucifixion of 2 thieves (Kortopi and Shalnark) eaten by crows.

Hisoka's resurrection and his representation of the 4th Month in the Ryodan (April) are linked to our festivity of Easter (Eostre, the germanic April) and the resurrection of Jesus. Resurrection Sunday or Pascha.

Silva and Zeno vs Chrollo/Chrollo vs Hisoka: Similarities

Silva and Zeno vs Chrollo
-Silva and Zeno started with an "unfair" advantage in an unbalanced fight (2 against 1, and Chrollo didn't fight using all his abilities but to steal their powers).
-Conclusion: Explosion, Chrollo was defeated, but he didn't die (also Zeno didn't die either); Chrollo prepared a plan in order to simulate his death.

Chrollo vs Hisoka
-Chrollo started with an "unfair" advantage in order to be 100% sure of win: the abilities of Shalnark and Kortopi to help him, he chose the location of the fight and prepared a precise strategy (using the audience as a human shield and a "hit-and-run run" strategy) in relation to his abilities and the location; used abilities with 2 hands and combined 5 abilities.
-Conclusion: Explosion, Hisoka was defeated and there is his "resurrection"/reanimation.

Chrollo vs Hisoka - 2
Now, Chrollo wants to upgrade his Skill hunter by stealing the 3 sacred treasure of Kakin and steal an ability he needs to kill Hisoka for good; this is similar and consistent with the strategy of his previous battle with all the pianification and abilities he used, since he knows that he can't defeat Hisoka in a "fair" 1 vs 1 or he knows that there are high probabilities for him to lose without preparations and the abilities.
By the way, in their 1st fight, he already said that it was the first time he needed so many abilities (5 abilities: Gallery of fake, Black Voice, Order Stamp, Converted hands, Sun and Moon) to kill someone.
He also admits to being ready to die in the case he meets Hisoka before he steals the sacred treasures and the ability he wants, since he isn't yet prepared for the battle, but ha has also a back-up plan for the Spider.
Instead, in Yorknew City, Chrollo didn’t care to have all these abilities (bookmark, 2 hands abilities etc) for his fight with Silva and Zeno; he was ready to fight them in a 2 vs 1 using only the Fun Fun Cloth to steal their powers. Zeno was the one ready to sacrifice himself in order to let Silva kill Chrollo. Will Chrollo be ready to sacrifice himself in order to kill Hisoka?

By the way, he was also ready to fight "fairly" 1 vs 1 without preparations when he thinks preparations aren't necessary: Manga

Main fights for the main characters of Zodiacs and Ryodan:
  1. Isaac Netero vs Meruem of Chimera Ants
  2. Beyond Netero vs ?????? of Calamities
  3. Pariston vs Ging
  4. Chrollo vs Hisoka

1) Isaac Netero vs Meruem of Chimera Ants=Beyond Netero vs ?????? of Calamities
Isaac Netero vs Meruem
Beyond Netero vs ????? of ?Calamities -
Calamities: evaluation list

2) Chrollo vs Hisoka=Pariston vs Ging

By the way, Chrollo and Hisoka are having 2 fights/feuds because:

1) Chrollo (The Sun) at the center of Genei Ryodan= Tao (Isaac Netero/Yang/White Hair+Beyond Netero/Yin/Black Hair) at the center of Zodiacs

Isaac Netero and Beyond Netero are both at the center of the Zodiacs, since they represent the "Tao" at the center of the Chinese Zodiac: Isaac Netero + Beyond Netero - Manga

Chinese Zodiac

  • Chrollo vs Hisoka (First Fight)=Isaac Netero vs Meruem of Chimera ants from Dark Continent (with the explosion-Death-Resurrection of Hisoka/Meruem)
  • Chrollo vs Hisoka (Second Fight)=Beyond Netero vs ???? of Calamities from Dark Continent
Chrollo, at the center of the Ryodan alone, represents both Isaac Netero and Beyond Netero, like Hisoka that interacts with both the Zoldick family (Illumi) and the Hoikoro family (he is on Tier 1 of Black Whale since he has connections with princes of the Hoikoro family).

2) Chrollo vs Hisoka is a reversed form of Gon vs Hisoka:

  1. Gon-Killua-Kurapika= Main characters
  2. Hisoka-Illumi-Tserriednich= Adversaries
Killua (and Alluka) vs Illumi for the Zoldyck family/Kurapika (and Woble) vs Tserriednich for the Hoikoro family
  1. Killua (and Alluka) vs Illumi
  2. Kurapika (and Woble) vs Tserriednich (Tserriednich)
Zoldyck Family=Hoikoro Family (an important and powerful family)
  • Killua=Kurapika (the main character that interact with the respective families)
  • Alluka=Woble (female character that must be protected by the main characters Killua/Kurapika)
  • Illumi=Tserriednich (evil elder brother, adversaries of Killua/Kurapika and Alluka/Woble)
  • Both Illumi and Tserriednich are related to Hisoka (that is on Tier 1 of Black Whale with his link to the Princes)
As a matter of fact, Beyond Netero is pretty much Isaac Netero 2.0:
  • As Isaac Netero fought the Chimera Ants, Beyond will fight the Calamities
  • Isaac Netero + Zeno Zoldyck (Chinese culture patriarch of an important family with Chinese mustache)(White hair-Yang) are symbolically opposed to Beyond Netero + Nasubi Hui Guo Rou (Chinese culture patriarch of an important family with Chinese mustache)/(Black hair-Yin). Also with the other patriarchs, sons of Zeno and Nasubi: Silva and Benjamin. Example:

I don’t really understand the purpose of the thread. Is it just a bunch of comparisons between major fights in the manga ?
Yes, it’s a thread to showcase clearly and correctly (to people that are interested to understand the manga) the correlations between main characters and fights of the manga, in order to have a better understanding of the meaning and interconnectedness of the manga, and the work of Togashi.

It’s only a basic description, it’s possible to also go deeper, for example: Why are the feud and fight between Chrollo and Hisoka in the Ryodan related to the feud and fight between Pariston and Ging in the Zodiacs?

Because Chrollo and the Ryodan are symbolically Jesus with the 12 apostles with the betrayer Judas/Hisoka that sold Chrollo/Jesus (Chrollo talks about Judas in the Manga) like Isaac and Beyond Netero are symbolically the Biblical patriarchs Isaac and Jacob with the 12 sons where Joseph/Pariston (the vice), the leader of the 12, was betrayed and sold by his brothers on proposition of Judah/Ging

Why does Togashi choose "Isaac" as name for Isaac Netero?

Because Togashi wanted to create a symbolic connection with the Biblical patriarch Isaac. Isaac Netero's extraordinary old age is based on the Biblical patriarchs that lived more than 100 years, also the depiction of Isaac Netero is related to the depiction of the Patriarch Isaac.

The same for Beyond, the son of Isaac Netero that represent the patriarch Jacob (the son of the Patriarch Isaac) with 12 sons like the 12 members of the Zodiacs

The 12 members of the Zodiacs are like the 12 sons of Jacob, where Pariston, the vice, is symbolically related to Joseph (the best and the leader of the 12) and Ging is related to Judah.

The symbolical similarities are also:
  • Chrollo is loved by the Ryodan members like Jesus was loved by his apostles, except Hisoka/Judas that sold him.
  • Pariston is despised by the other Zodiacs members, like Joseph was despised by his brothers that sold him by proposition of Judah (Ging)
-Jesus sold by Judas= Joseph sold by Judah and his brothers. As a matter of fact, it was Judah who spots a caravan of Ishmaelites coming towards them on its way to Egypt and suggests that Joseph be sold to the Ishmaelites. Both groups of 12 (Christianity and Jewish religion).

-Pariston and Ging talked about the position of number 2 (Manga): this position has a biblical symbolic relevance in relation to their symbolism of Joseph. In short: In Genesis, after Joseph was sold by his brothers he went to Egypt and because of his capabilities and abilities, he helped the Pharaoh to save Egypt and the Pharaoh proclaimed him Zaphnath-Paaneah, the number 2, second only to the Pharaoh.
  • Pariston vs Ging like Chrollo vs Hisoka: like Hisoka (the magician) resurrected like Jesus (also called the magician) and has also the symbolic role of Jesus, the same for Pariston and Ging in relation to the symbolic role of Joseph where Ging become the new number 2 instead of Pariston. In short: Chrollo and Hisoka change and alternate themselves the role of Jesus, Pariston and Ging change and alternate themselves in the role of Joseph in relation to different situations. Togashi changes these symbolic roles.
-By the way, inside the Hui Guo Rou family, there are characters symbolically related to both Jesus and Joseph: Tserriednich (another "Jesus-like" character) and/or Beyond/Jacob's son (another "Joseph-like" character) with Nasubi's wife that change and intersect the symbolism of Chrollo-Hisoka (Jesus) and Pariston and Ging (Joseph) since Togashi wants to change these symbolism (Jesus and Joseph) in relation to different situations of the manga.

Main characters: Groups of 4 characters

Togashi recycled the same idea of Yu Yu Hakusho for the main characters in HXH, where Gon-Killua-Kurapika-Leorio are related and similar to Yusuke-Hiei-Kurama-Kuwabara.
The same for Chrollo-Hisoka-Pariston-Ging

Chrollo=Gon (Black hair-Yin), Hisoka=Killua (White hair-Yang), Pariston=Kurapika (White hair-Yang), Ging=Leorio (Black hair-Yin)with the color of hair in relation to Yang-White hair and Yin-Black hair of Taoism.

Kurapika and Leorio supplanted Pariston and Ging as the new rat (Kurapika/Pariston) and boar (Leorio/Ging) in the Zodiacs, like Hisoka/Killua helped Chrollo/Gon with the Nen removal (Also, Nobunaga wanted Gon and Kilua inside the Ryodan): Chrollo-Hisoka/Gon-Killua

Togashi connected it also to the religious symbolism he gave to his characters: Chrollo-Hisoka (symbolically Jesus-like characters) like Gon-Killua and Pariston-Ging (symbolically Joseph-like characters) like Kurapika and Leorio are the "adult" main characters of the manga, since Togashi followed also the representation according to Christian and Jewish religions where the order is: Jesus (The number 1)> Joseph (The number 2)> Abrahm-Isaac-Jacob (The main patriarchs)>apostles of Jesus/sons of Jacob, progenitors of the tribes of Israel.

Everyone is also free to share other similarities or symbolic meaning related to the main characters and fights of the manga.
