In this arc, I get the feeling that Marco was the jolly that cover many times Zoro during the raid in Onigashima.
Zoro was the one that took the medicine from Apoo and gave it to Chopper but Marco is the one that gave enough time to let the cure works and safe many samurai.
Marco also understood indirectly (almost like telepathy) what Zoro wanted which is to go fighting Kaido. So he let that happen.
Marco is also the one that commented about Zoro being the muscle of the straw-hat. He knew that Zoro is part of the next generation to take down the Yonkos.
Marco is the one that stale King until Zoro got back to the dome.
In chapter 1038 is clear that something is happening with Zoro and it will require probably some help but not from someone like Franky but someone with a power that can restore heal and boost your own energy (even if momentarily) (which is exactly what Zoro need).
Surprising Marco disappear for many chapters and we have no idea where he is.
Initially he was carrying Izo (even if Marco was the one damaged) and they past Big Mom. That was the last time we saw Marco (almost 10chapters ago).
Izo had a plan to stop the fire demon but it look like he went first to check the other Scabban (O-kiku and Kinemon)
In chap 1038 he is in the room in which the CP0 defeated x-drake, that mean he was aiming to were the fire demon went. Now it look like his priority change again because he want to stop the CP0.
Now about Marco, he is not fighting the fire demon even if he can fly so move faster than Izo. No one saw Marco passing the room in which the CP0 fought x-drake which is the way to go to the fire demon. That tell me that Marco aint going for the fire demon but he is going to an other place.
Marco knew about the mink medicine counter-effect (he saw all what happen in the dome) he was the one that save Zoro from King before the medicine kick in.
To conclude Marco will again play the jolly for Zoro and will be the first one to meet Zoro.
So far Zoro doesnt look to lose any significant amount of blood but that can change anytime. And even if that doesnt happen Marco could boost for a brief time Zoro own energy to make Zoro move again (that part of Marco special healing power with his flame).
