SSJ Goku played with him, Goku was stronger than Trunks who stomped Mecha Freeza. Goku would beat Mecha Freeza around mid diff at worst, the Namek Goku ofc.

Also, in the manga the battle was more one-sided than it was portrayed in the anime.
Freeza was slowly getting tired while Goku grew bored of him in the middle of the fight. And as you said, Goku finished him low diff at the end of the fight when Freeza tried to backstab him.

In terms of an overall scale it would be

But given Frieza's own statement, I'd be more inclined to believe the ">" than the ">="

That doesn't mean Goku > Trunks though, it just means Goku was stronger than Trunks thought he'd be.
