Future Events Myths that You'd Like for Oda to Bring Back in One Piece

#1
Old Myths & Legends are an incredible source of material for a tale like One Piece, which revolves around Piracy, Navigation & Ancient Times...
Oda knows this and wisely takes inspiration to write every Arc. It can be seen in the whole story and it's what makes One Piece so Great.
So I simply want to ask you if there are myths/legends or historic events/characters you'd like to see brought back in Oda's panels in the future.

Me personally, I have some on top of my head:
  • The Nemean Lion, which was a monster in Greek Mythology that lived at Nemea and was eventually killed by Hercules. Because its golden fur was impervious to attack, it could not be killed with mortals' weapons. Its claws were sharper than mortals' swords and could cut through any strong armour. And, in a similar fashion, the Chimera, which was a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature from Lycia, composed of different animal parts. Typically, it was depicted as a lion with a goat's head protruding from its back and a tail ending with a snake's head. Some representations also included dragon's wings. The Chimera was killed by Bellopheron.
One could even argue that Kaido was partially inspired by Myths like this, to a degree. But I would still like a more textbook rapresentation of such creatures/battles in One Piece.

  • Scylla and Charybdis, which were mythical sea monsters noted by Homer. Greek mythology sited them on opposite sides of the Strait of Messina between Sicily and Calabria, on the Italian mainland. Scylla was rationalized as a rock shoal (described as a six-headed sea monster) on the Calabrian side of the strait and Charybdis was a whirlpool off the coast of Sicily. They were regarded as maritime hazards located close enough to each other that they posed an inescapable threat to passing sailors; avoiding Charybdis meant passing too close to Scylla and vice versa. According to Homer's account, Odysseus was advised to pass by Scylla and lose only a few sailors, rather than risk the loss of his entire ship in the whirlpool.
This legit sounds like the type of danger you'd expect while navigating the New World.

  • The Praetorian Guard, which was an elite unit of the Imperial Roman Army that served as personal bodyguards and intelligence agents for the Roman Emperors.
During the Roman Republic, the Praetorian Guards were escorts for high-ranking political officials and were bodyguards for the senior officers of the Roman Legions. In 27 BC, after Rome's transition from republic to empire, the first emperor of Rome, Augustus, designated the Praetorians as his personal security escort. For three centuries, the guards of the Roman emperor were also known for their palace intrigues, by whose influence upon imperial politics the Praetorians could overthrow an emperor and then proclaim his successor as the new caesar of Rome.
It would be interesting, imo, if the Holy Knights were to be inspired, even vaguely, from such elite group. Or, in case the Ancient Kingdom was based on Ancient Rome, if the Ancient Kingdom had such a force. Let's not forget the Romans had a level of technology very ahead of their time, like the Ancient Kingdom.

  • The Great Fire of Rome which was suspected to be planned and executed by Emperor Nero (Nerone in Latin/Italian), Rome's Emperor at the time. After six days, the fire was brought under control, but before the damage could be assessed, the fire reignited and burned for another three days. In the aftermath of the fire, 71% of Rome had been destroyed. According to Tacitus and later Christian tradition, Emperor Nero blamed the devastation on the Christian community in the city, initiating the empire's first persecution against the Christians.
About this, it's very curious that Imu comes from the Nerona house and that the Great Fire started the persecution of Christians, similarly to how the Void Century (and whatever happened during it) started the persecution of the D. Clan...
Maybe, just MAYBE, in this case Oda has already started the set-up of an historic reference...

Nero did nothing wrong and I resent the allegations he started the fire.

Personally was hyped to see his take on Orochi and got disappointed. I wouldn’t mind seeing him touch on Odin at all. I always liked the stories of Odin disguising himself, traveling the lands and inexplicably tricking slaves to kill themselves or deceiving giants.

No idea how he could toss this in, besides maybe the man with the burned mark. Which could work since Odin hung himself or took out his eye for wisdom. A burned scar could be a nice allegory for the same trope.

Well, from my recent thread about it, I personally think it'd be kind of interesting to bring in the myth of the Gordian Knot from Greek mythology. And even work in the story of the Shimenawa rope and Amaterasu from Japanese mythology. Just because it'd be fun if I was right. But, I think everyone's heard enough about that from me for a while.

Since we're going to Elbaf soon-ish, we're probably going to meet some Norse God inspired characters, if Prince Loki is any indication. I know from mass media and Marvel movies we're all kind of expecting Loki to be the main villain of the arc. But, instead of Loki, I'd actually perfer it if the traitor to the World Government was Gullveig the witch, instead. In some versions of Norse myth, Loki only truly becomes evil after eating Gullveig's heart. He was just a trickster before that, and she is responsible for corrupting him from beyond the grave. It would just tickle my myth-loving heart if Oda included some reference to Gullveig in the story. (Unless Mother Carmel is our Gullveig-reference in this story, because if she is, I guess I’m good.)

And personally, I think the Underworld is going to play a part in the endgame of One Piece in some way. It'd be nice to see the Icy Underworld that Brooke and Venus seem to draw their powers from. These lines up with Naraka or Jigoku from Buddist mythology pretty well.

For Blackbeard and his Darkness Fruit, it'd be kind of interesting if Oda drew inspiration from Amatsu-Mikaboshi. The Japanese god who is essentially the primordial darkness that existed before the universe iteself was born.

It would be nice if there actually was a character who was essentially Mother Nature or Mother Ocean or Gaea. If only because people have been speculating about it for so long, due to the curse of the Devil Fruits. It'd be nice if we got some confirmation if she actually exists before the end of the story, one way or another.

Personally, I just think it'd be neat if a Ryuto showed up as one of the Zoans/Yokai in this story. Just because I think a dragon made out of moonlight is a cool idea. Maybe as Imu's "yokai" form?

Another possible reference for Oda to draw on for Imu could be Nuwa from Chinese mythology. In that story, this serpentine goddess helped repair the 5 pillars of creation by fusing them with the 5 elements, saving the world, and defeating a evil Black Dragon. I just think there's some parallels you could use with the empowerment of the 5 Gorosei in there.

And to end things out, this isn't exactly a "myth" per se, but it'd be interesting if Oda worked in a reference to those old manuscript illustrations of knights fighting giant snails. Look, all I'm saying is, we have Den Den Mushi all over the world. It'd be kind of a surprise if they all rose up against everyone as one of the final villains of the story. Imagine, the true final villain of One Piece being...snails.

I'm pretty interested in Chinese Mithology, I knew a little bit about it from other manhuas, but especially the references that Oda uses from the Wufang Shangdi and the Wuxing are very awesome, I'd say he uses them better than any other fiction I've seen.
And I can't wait to see more references from there, I've been studying Chinese mithology for a while and it's surprisingly very complicated.

I want him to keep on developping on the myth of the Jade Rabbit. There is a lot of potential in this.

:carrocorn:

Other than that I love the myth of Excalibur and the Arthurian legends. (Merlin, Mordred, Morgan, Arthur), there is so much potential with those characters.

I want to see how far Oda will go with the deluge myth. Which version will he take?

I would love more Ratatosk and Yggsdrasil in Elbaf.

I really want more dragons to exist in One Piece with its lore.

And i would love to see some Hapa Nui lore in One Piece.

If Oda ever does a retelling of the Gordian Knot, I can bet my mustache it'll be a knot infused with the strongest haki in the land (maybe by the Giant King), who nobody could untie until Mihawk came around the cut clean. That's how he became the WSS. His sword cut the world strongest haki
