Powers & Abilities Oda didn't retcon Luffy's G5 timelimit

A lot of people think Oda somehow retconned G5 because Luffy recharged himself against Kaido but not in Egghead. These people seem to miss something very important.

Momo: His voice is still fading quickly
Kaido: Hey, you're really going to kill yourself
Luffy: after all this, do you really think something like death can scare me?

Yes, Luffy could have revived himself using G5 and gone on to fight Saturn. But doing so would have put his life at risk. While something such as this was necessary against Kaido, it wasn't necessary in the past few chapters. Luffy still has his haki, he can use FS and he knew that nothing was going to happen to Bonney. Were he to see a future where Bonney would have gotten seriously hurt, I'm sure he would have used a second round of G5.

But apart from that he really had no reason to not recover his stamina before fighting some more. Especially since Saturn is at full health.

It's not a retcon it's a purposeful inconsistency to add tension. Same thing with gear 3 and 4 gasout. Even pretime skip he used gear 3 and never shrunk. Or used gear 4 during the raid and never ran out of haki


We will see Luffy fight Imu and Blackbeard with gear 5 for dozens of chapters in a row in the future lol.

I think the biggest difference between the two fights is that Luffy puts all his stamina in WSG to hit Kizaru compared to when he just tuckers out due to time limit when fighting Kaido. Luffy was just in a far more critically exhausted state after throwing a crazyass punch than when he restarts his heart on the roof while bantering with Kaido.

Bullshit. Headcannoing about him seing the future and no necessity to do anything about it when he is exhausted like this but he couldn't see future once against Kizaru.

It is a retcon. And of he worst kind.

Luffy never was at danger of dying by reactivating G5 against Kaido. Look after Bagjrang Gun. He was fine. Way better than at that panel.

Also that makes me theoryze about G5 depleting his DF abilities and in this panel if Yamato didn't catch up Luffy he could have died in the fall because at that moment his body wasn't rubber just like G4 deplets haki.
