Once Popular Characters / Series for Vs Debates That Have Since Fallen Out

#1
Title of the thread is as followed. What characters that were once popular, frequently used, and considered strong in Vs Debates that have since become obsolete or at least not as great as they once were?

Can be for any number of reasons you can think of. The series that character has from has only escalated further in power to where that particular is no longer the top dog, the character has been revised and now no longer considered as impressive, just not enough interest for the series or character from like it used to be, etc.

I’ll get started.

Itachi Uchiha.

I remember when this guy was considered untouchable because of how frankly insane Tsukuyomi was. There was once a time where people argued Itachi could beat anyone in DBZ because of his Tsukuyomi.

One look at his eyes and you’d be put under the illusion of several days of endless torture that occurred in the blink of an eye. To this day, Itachi had one of the most powerful introductions to a character in Naruto.

Why he’s since fallen out of favor?

The most obvious being how Naruto has escalated in power. Itachi remained relevantly powerful for most of Shippudens run, even well into the War Arc where he played a significant role after being brought back. But Itachi just doesn’t compare to the heavy hitters introduced later such as Madara Uchiha who has since taken Itachi’s place as the go-to Uchiha in vs debates when it isn’t Sasuke.

The other reason for Itachi falling out over the years is from more and more counters to Genjutsu being demonstrated in Naruto that can easily apply to other settings. So it’s no longer LOL Tsukuyomi GG more than half the time.

I'mma say Minato.

He used to be very popular in Naruto versus debates.

As for how he has fallen in terms of power level, I think he still has a strong standing in terms of scaling, don't get me wrong.

But during my Naruto days back in 2015, Minato is hailed as the strongest Hokage.

@Astaro your tags didn't work BTW or at least I didn't get one.

I think most people simply move on from a finished manga onto a new one. And most aren't really into cross-verse scaling to begin with.
Damn it, here I was giving it another try and it still didn’t work. Do me a solid and do a shoutout please?

Also, you’d be surpised. Even ongoing series or ones that at least aren’t technically finished have fallen out of favor for one reason or another.

Another one: Kenshiro

Before there was Saitama, there was Kenshiro, the original One Punch Man who could turn anyone to gibs with one hit.

Was once popular to pit Kenshiro against HST and come up with ways for him to counter whatever abilities through Hokuto Shinkens seeming answer for everything. For a time, it was even popular to argue Kenshiro being able to beat DBZ characters

Reason Kenshiro has fallen out is probably a combination of age of the character and both overall power escalation and with that a better understanding of the difference in power between verses compared to a decade ago.

Hokuto No Ken just isn’t as powerful as other popular settings in Vs Debates including several that were once considered a good fight that have since left this series in the dust.

There also have since been more ways that Hokuto Shinken and even Musou Tensei can be countered. Like there just being too much of a different in strength and speed from the opposition to matter being the simplest

Another example Galand from Seven deadly sins/Four knights:

This guy made the Ten Commandments like nearly untouchable, beat the shit out Meliodas and the other sins easily, crushed home of Camelot and its knights. And that’s from him being bored and to see his former leader so weak.

Challenged Escanor to a death match loose run away like a bitch and turned to stone.

Revived by chaos magic gets his body back and is killed again along with snake girl by Meliodas’s son Tristan in demon mark form.

Remember when there used to be endless debates with Galand with the dude supplanting Hendrickson. Helped that during Galand’s heyday was when the series was at its peak in popularity

Another one: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure really as a whole. Compared to a decade ago when the series was relatively obscure where all you had were hilariously bad manga translations done by people who weren’t even good at English, the series has since become more mainstream with solid anime adaptations of up to Part 6, much better done and more accessible manga translations, as well as an official manga release by Viz Media currently in the middle of Part 5.

And with that, a lot of wank has been debunked about the series. Like Country level Jotaro and DIO from “accumulated damage during timestop” with their Stands or taking stat sheets for certain Stands at face value like Notorious B.IG. and literally saying these were Stands with literally infinite power, speed, and range.

But I think the character that’s taken the biggest fall in this regard is Enricco Pucci with his final Stand: Made in Heaven

If you saw battle board threads with this guy about a decade ago, you’d think he was this unparalleled universe-scale reality warper with infinite speed beating the likes of Dark Schneider and the heavy hitters of DC and Marvel.

Truth his that’s not the case at all. How Made in Heaven actually works: It speeds up time of the universe, making days and nights go by in moments and continues to accelerate more and more.

This speeding up of time only affects non-living things with the exception of Pucci himself whose speed and reflexes keep up with and match the speed at which time accelerates. This makes him an absolute speedster that continues to get faster and faster while anyone else lags behind him more and more as the fight continues.

Eventually, time accelerates to where the universe reaches its end and a new one is formed.

No, Pucci is not creating a brand new universe with his own power or able to freely alter reality in his image. In fact, those who are still alive at the time the universe ends arrive in the new universe that follows completely unharmed.

Its because of this reason that in order to actually kill his enemies, he needed to physically kill them himself before the universe ends so that they would seize to exist in the new one.

And all Pucci has going for himself in a direct fight is his enhanced speed that comes with his time acceleration. His actual striking power is about Building level at best and the only other thing to worry about is any potential hazards from all non-living things speeding up. Because of the way MiH works, the destruction of the universe does absolutely nothing to any character so long as their still alive and haven’t been killed.

And needless to say, he’s not literally infinite speed. Infinite in the sense that on paper he can reach infinite speeds if he can theoretically continue accelerating time infinitely. But he obvious never actually will reach that point and the acceleration caps out to when the current universe reaches its end. He then has to start the time acceleration from scratch in the new one if he chooses.

So long story short: Pucci w/ MiH is a glorified Glass Cannon speedster and is screwed in a fight against literally anyone he can’t punch to death with his Building level punches

I remember preacher being relatively more discussed compared to now as goes now same goes with invincible

there was like dozens of threads when that show came out and yet now it's barely talked about same kinda goes with other superhero characters like superman and thor who kinda just arent talked about much at all cause comics are kinda a dead medium

I remember back in my days on naruto forums now called fanverse
I often debated on if tobirama was like juubito lv or not with me being on the side of not

good times
https://www.fanverse.org/threads/why-tobirama-is-fodder.1215572/

as for other characters
I often debated on if hanzo was really strong or if sasori was really strong

I still kinda do the sasori stuff not so much the hanzo or tobirama though

Most clorox characters.Unless some diehard Fans, most knows that they are outdated

So are Naruto top tiers
Yhwach has basically taken Aizen’s place in Vs Boards lol

Naruto Top Tiers still see fair amount of use. Just often side by side with Boruto characters but the hype for them has definitely died down compared to what it was like in 2014-2016

Dracule Mihawk the strongest swordsman in one piece:

I remember this guy Introduction a decade ago after sanji joins the straw hats. Zoro challenged him to a fight and blocked all of Zoro’s attacks with his butter knife he carries around his neck and Humiliated the guy with it too.

Hell at the Marineford war arc Mihawk sliced down random pirates allied with Whitebeard, even clashed with Vista one of Whitebeard’s commanders to an draw.

Heh his clone even on egghead island gets more screen time than him anyway.

Both are overrated anyway.

Mihawk was never popular outside of One Piece debates.

Yu Yu Hakusho.

Planet busting Sensui anyone?

Combination of that and other stuff debunked and the HST either matching or surpassing it have quietly led to the series not seeing as much presence as before in Vs boards.

I miss the days when Yu Yu Hakusho could hand both Bleach and Naruto’s asses admittedly

Gilgamesh
he used to be seen at multiverse lvs of power now nobody even talks about him
Wouldn’t say so. The Multiversal Gil wank only applied to the version of him from Fate/Extra CCC which has been long debunked thanks to it being translated and more info on the Moon Cell provided by Fate Extella and F/GO. Now we know CCC Gil is in fact no stronger than than regular Servant Gil

And the Multiversal Fate Gil shit was fairly niche even at its peak in wank and only really seen on Comicvine.

But if anything, Gil and Fate in general have only gotten both more popular and credibly stronger than ever thanks to F/GO.

And while not even remotely Multiversal levels made from lies and misconceptions, F/GO has steadily escalated the power levels of the series with Beasts, Grand Servants, Lostbelt Kings, and the Ultimate Ones like ORT finally showing what they can do.

Gilgamesh being able to kill Tiamat with Ea is his most impressive feat for that NP to date.

Magi another series that nobody talks about anymore. The magic in that universe is crazy powerful being able to use elemental magic or summon strange creatures that can end the world.

Aladdin chooses the next king/queen to help guide the world towards peace.

It’s a shame that no one talks about anymore, there’s so many Hilarious moments that happen to Alibaba and others it will have you rolling on the ground with laughter.

Magi was never all that big to begin with. Even when the anime was airing. Lack of another season definitely ended it earlier though

If it wasn’t for the series suddenly jumping straight to universe creating gods at the end, it would have largely been forgotten even sooner too.

Alucard from Hellsing

Largely forgotten these days but I remember when he was considered unbeatable.

Alucard has loads of hax but just doesn’t have the stats to keep up with loads of other fiction once things like power and speed were better applied in Vs Debates
