Smoker is weak (still miles ahead of Loby) compared to Luffy and no plot can help him unfortunately. Still love him tho easily one of my top5 Marines.

Plot can allow his Jitte to negate Luffy's devil fruit and weaken his haki (at least what we can speculate from Udon). Will definitely need some powerups but Smoker is the guy for that, he isn't too old to become stronger as poeple think, even Luffy thought he got stronger in Marineford compared to Alabasta. Him being at Vegapunk's turf isn't a coincidence too.
Tricky opponent that can easily outsmart Luffy. Ngl it is hard to picture decent fights in one piece after Wano, but it wasn't always a durability fest, Kaido was such a lame ass villain.

My main hope for this arc is a Smoker redemption and I don’t care if it makes no sense for him to be so strong.

If he was a tricky opponent like Ceasar it would be possible. If his awakening allow him to suffocate people or something like this maybe he has a chance if Oda nerf Luffy to fight without coc/gears.

Tbh i think they will just exhange some punches & compliments and maybe we have a new alliance to save princess Loby.
