Kid and Law at the very least defeated an emperor, which is more than post WCI Luffy or pre-skip Teach can say. And its definitely more than anything Katakuri has done in his near 50 years of being alive.
I think there's some chance Kid and Law won't be considered emperors, but they're a lot closer to being one than Kata. If territory and crew alone made one an emperor, Marco would have been crowned one post-marineford. He clearly wasn't.

It was not just defeating Kata that made him called the 5th emperor. It was may things listed by Morgans, as having a huge army, going in WCI, destroying an emperors place, defeating 2 commanders, and all the credit given to him which is mostly true.

Katakuri in fact will be the captain of Big Mom pirates, yet he wont have the same influence as her. I mean, it will be just a strong crew but with no emperor tier feats. Maybe they will lose control over some islands, the gyojin island being one of them, they wont have the power to be a candidate for Pirate King.
It will be crew tier below the emperors.
But seeing how Law doesnt have that much military power, there is still the posibility.

Tottoland isn't all of Big Mom's lands. We know she has fishman island and she likely has more outside tottoland as well. Islands like that are easily going to be taken up by Kid, Law, or the SH grand fleet and Kata won't be able to defend them. Unless he is going to bring his whole army out of tottoland, which is exactly how BM was defeated.

Mate, Emperors don't fight each other. BM and Kaido haven't seen each other for 20 years. Shanks and WB had not met since before the days of Mihawk vs. Shanks.

Katakuri isn't an emperor. His bounty is the same as Jack's. Teach would literally neg diff him.
The only reason emperors don't fight each other is because it would be a tough fight between them. Katakuri isn't a tough fight for anybody. Teach can literally defeat the entire BMP.
And while he could defeat Kid and Law, there's one thing kata has that they don't. Kata has a road poneglyph, which is going to make him a target.

Marco wasn't the 'Captain' of the Whitebeard Pirates remnants but most likely just the temporary leader for the payback war.
All Katakuri needs is advcoc which is something he could have learned after his fight with Luffy... and as we have seen with Luffy it's not something that has to take a long time to learn.
