Character Discussion Roger, Garp, Oden, Dragon have been extremely disappointing

#3
Roger was fine. It was never claimed that he was a good guy.
Garp didn't give a shit about things that he couldn't change and didn't participate or help the celestial dragons. He didn't go to the island to protect celestial dragons but to hunt Roger.
Oden is a wano character so automatically shit and fanfiction tier. Wano sucks, outside of Tama. The writing don't make sense and it shows.
Dragon had to suffer to make the nika retcon work. Even after that, the story still has issues and plot holes.
Whitebeard suffered from success. Not saving Oden is because wano writing sucks, as stated.

Overall, it seems that your issues are because of the writing trying to fix the hole that Wano created in the plot. Just think about it:

After the reverie people still had hopes about the plot and what would happen. But then Oda made Oden larger than life and it affected the plot more and more. First, it made whitebeard look like a asshole, then he created Yamato to steal Tama/Hyori background and fucked it more. With Nika he made the WG incompetent and to make Nika needed he made them unnecessarily evil (beyond the things we saw previously). That made characters like garp, smoker and other marines frauds. You can't even say this was planned because the holes were made later.

Like, look at this scene:

Based on what we know NOW, why Bonney running away would send shivers on Akainu spine? But, ok this can MAYBE be explained in the next chapter but one thing that he won't be able to explain is: how BB knew all this to the point of knowing that Bonney was worth 1 battleship? Everything that happened to her that could explain this scene happened in the year she left. BB would not be privy to this information and would have no way of knowing it before that since even the WG didn't knew (if she was so important she would bebetter guarded and cared of).

Anyway, everything is because the need to justify the plot holes and retcons introduced in wano.

Why would BB need to know Bonney's backstory to think she's worth a battleship?

How expensive do you think a battleship is? The WG has hundreds of them. Adam Tree, the most valuable wood in the world, is worth 200 million berry. And not a small amount, enough to make something as MASSIVE as the Thousand Sunny.

That's just a bit more than Bonney's bounty at the time.

Bonney was a SN above 100million Berry so she may be worth a battleship; BB didn't seem to know anything but the information above.
Why would he want a 10 year old to become his wife if he knew ?

Don't forget Rayleigh and the remnants of Roger pirates too.

Oden had a LOT of top tier allies that his decision to just submit to Crydo and Orochi was just plain out dumb.

Literally in what world would waging a large scale war vs one Rocks pirate (who wasn't even a yonko at the time) be WORSE than letting your entire nation go under his tyrannical rule for 20 YEARS?

Oden is an idiot.
Now i'm confused whether oden had that snail to communicate with them or not.

Roger pirates remnants + red hair pirates+ WB pirates could have saved oden.

But then, we wouldnt have luffy's nika plot.

Just like a tank is not about the metal its built a battleship is also not about the building materials. Otherwise it would be easier for bb to invade galley-la and order someone to make one. While the story is not focused on naval battles you have to understand that there should be a significant difference between a normal ship and a battleship (we know at least that in a buster call 5 of them are enough to make a island or place a pile of rubble). At a minimum these are military secrets.
We know that battleships should be incredible expensive because even vegapunk used it as a basis for the value of Bonney surgery and Saturn used it as a leverage to negotiate with Kuma.
Again, this is not something that capturing a random hoe should be enough to pay. Any half competent leader would give bb the finger and let him kill the pirate (dead or alive remember?) Instead of giving the terrorist that tried to destroy your military base last week bombs.
So no, the idea that Bonney is valuable enough to be worth trading alive for a battleship based only on what was show doesn't make sense.

Why would any government give a tank or a battleship to a terrorist instead of giving him the finger and let him kill the wanted pirate?

That just comes down to BB being stupid enough to believe they'd actually trade.

This literally does not invalidate either of our point just cause you think an indepth explanation is needed for something incredibly simple.

Bonney worth a lot of money
BB needs a ship
BB is dumb enough to think the WG would trade

This man thought he could just waltz round Impel Down unimpeded
This is a man who thought he could trade Koby for a kingdom

That's all you need.

I will be honest, the manga don't portray BB as a idiot like you claim and while he acts like a bitch a lot he seem to always have a good plan to come in top. Not only that but the scene was clearly meant to display that Bonney was worth a lot to the WG to the point that they even sent a admiral to retrieve her. Of course, this is being retconned right now but this just proves my point that the events of wano are the cause of those inconsistencies.

Yeah an Admiral came that Blackbeard had no fucking clue was going to show up. It's clear that BB's intention wasn't to capture Bonney specifically, it was to capture one of the supernova. You're trying to twist this into more than it is.

The supernova are worth a lot

Blackbeard wanted a ship

That's all there is to it.

that's because everyone only expects fighting feats from those characters but they aren't fighting all the time so there you go

I don't think it would have been easy for Oden to involve his friends into his own fight, also he probably has the same samurai pride as Momo. Besides, he was strong and had a fair chance of winning on his own.
