While Sanji’s opponents are usually stronger than the other antagonists, bar Luffy and Zoro’s, they are also usually of a higher rank too. And in Laffitte’s vivre card, he was said to act like a chief of staff to the Blackbeard Pirates
Either way, this would place Laffitte in a higher position than the other crew mates, similar to that of Sanji. And this position is evident outside of his vivre card too. Not only has he been trusted with important tasks like securing Blackbeard a Warlord position–
– or getting the crew into Marineford, but he also has been shown to be quite assertive towards other members of the crew like Avalo Pizarro and Jesus Burgess, further displaying his loyalty to his captain
Connection to Shiryu While Sanji’s matchup remains up in the air, Zoro’s notably does not. A number of factors have led the fanbase to presume he will fight Shiryu, and because of the patterns we’ve witnessed, finding his pair should mean finding Sanji’s opponent
If we were to follow this logic with Sanji– who’s number is 5– we would land on Laffitte. Obviously this couldn’t apply to all the matchups, but I could see this being a fun Easter egg just for Zoro and Sanji’s opponents since Oda seems to pay them extra attention
