Sawyer claims that originally it was Teach, 10 captains and Kuzan. And in the Endgame it was gonna be Luffy and 10 Strawhats vs the Blackbeard pirates and Kuzan wouldn’t fight the strawhats so everyone had a match up

now apparently because Oda decided there is not gonna be a 10th Strawhat, he also dropped the 10th Captain. He added Kuzan in the spot so that Kuzan will bail in the endgame so that it remains luffy and 9 strawhats vs teach and 9 titanic captains

honestly, I buy it. There was clearly supposed to be a 10th Strawhat and Oda changed his mind so this kind of tracks

I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being true, we know during the time when Oda went on his one month break he most likely made some changes.

It's possible that one of those changes was deciding not to have another character like Yamato to join the SHs, and if he made that change then he also probably removed the mysterious 10th captain of the Blackbeard Pirates.

However because Oda already confirmed that there are 10 captains, he probably just replaced the unknown 10th captain with Kuzan instead.

I also agree with Sawyer that I don't believe Kuzan will fight the SHs when they fight the Blackbeard Pirates.

My only contention would be that it would seem we saw the entire Blackbeard crew all the way back in 575. So if there were plans to add a 10th crew member then it would have to be someone we didn't see or not confirmed to be a Blackbeard pirate. I also would imagine that this person would have to be somewhat special to introduce later in the story. I think Oda would have to have decided by the time we saw Moria on Pirate Island to not have another member cause otherwise when would he introduce this new crewmember.

Just watched his vid, makes no sense to me. Oda had the idea of the 10 captains since Dressrosa, why would he scrap a mysterious 10th member in favor of Aokiji just a couple of chapters prior to the 10th finally being revealed, when explaining why Aokiji joined requires just as much panel time if not more? And to me its pretty clear that the idea that Oda decided to scrap a bunch of things during his 1 month break is nonsense because he added a bunch of new subplots since then like this raid on Beehive, Law and Kid's defeat, Cross guild as a whole and so on. At best Oda just rearranged how things would play out, I see no reason to belive he outright scrapped ideas, especially in this case since the idea of the final SH crew having 10 people+Luffy has been a thing since chapter 1, and BB having 10 to me is just a byproduct of Teach being an "evil Luffy"

Strawhats are not heading back to Wano lmao. When has Oda ever had the Straw Hats backtrack? This just sounds like wild cope.

Anyways I do think he changed his mind, but probably because the idea that Kuzan has truly lost his way sounds a lot more interesting than another spy in a yonko crew. With that, he probably decided Yamato or Carrot wouldn't be a good character to match with Kuzan due to power/storytelling reasons
