First of all why Shanks is stationed on Elbaf and some of you mightve heard this already. This is quite popular.
Elbaf is clearly connected to norse mythology and history. With the Vikings theme/honorable warriors and especially with Oda mentioning a Character named Loki connected to the God Asgard loki whos father was a giant. Now Shanks is probably inspired by the Norse god Tyr who was the god of war but also the one to keep the world in its place from falling.
Shanks is inspired by Tyr the Norse god whos the god of war but also someone who always tries to keep the world from falling apart. Similar to shanks trying to stop ace chasing blackbeard, preventing kaido from coming to MF and stopping the war. And also discussing with the gorosei over a potential threat. Tyr also sacrificed his left arm but for the gods to bind the monster who ate it. But hes also inspired by Eric the Red. Mainly his hair and the epithet (Red Hair Shanks) who also earned his epithet "Erik the Red" cause of his red hair and beard (but also because he was "covered in blood" metaphorically and literally in some stories). Lastly his ship is clearly inspired by the typical viking ship with the dragon at the front.
Erik the Red
Now since shanks is now stationed in Elbaf which means yasopp is also there most likely. Usopp has been built up for this arc since Little Garden. He wants to be a strong warrior of the sea just like the elbaf giants he said and he wants to visit Elbaf one day. Elbaf backwards is fable. And now this might sound like a reach but im just gonna say it. I found this little connection in a youtube comment. Since Usopp hes been built up for this arc it kind of makes sense to fit. There is a collection of short stories famously called "Aesop's Fables". Which reminds me of Usopp and his lies. Usopps name is in fact a reference to Aesop's fables since Uso in Japanese = lie, uso+aesop=usopp. I think also said hes gonna write a book one day about all his great achievements for Kaya but dont quote me on that. I think he will fight yasopp because yasopp will ask how his mother is doing and he will snap at that like he did when luffy talked in a bad way about the marry.
Connecting to all of that I think shanks or shanks father has killed kids father when Kid was still young which would explain why kids so focused on killing Shanks. Kid is inspired by Eustace the Monk and William Kidd (Also Captain Kidd thats where the epithet comes from). Both of eachothers fathers death had a pretty hard impact on their lives. Eustace the Monks father was murdered and he went back home to avenge his father. William Kidds father died when he was young and they struggled living but got support by a local society. Judging from Odas drawing of Kid as a young child you can clearly see that he was not very rich maybe even poor and probably grew up as an orphan. Erik the Reds father was banished from Norway because of various different killings and he took his son Erik with him. He died unknown years later and left Erik behind.
Now how does this connect to Kid today? Well in the latest chapter 980 in the last page we see the letters "MET" and the number "865" on Kids metal hand. The chapter 865 ends with the beginning of the elbaf flashback by bigmom and the last word is "Elbaf". I think the letters "MET" can be taken literally that Kid "met" someone in Elbaf connected to his arm/hand. Basically Shanks since it was confirmed that he or one of his crewmates cut off Kids arm.
I think Kid sailed to Elbaf to avenge his fathers death but suffered a crushing defeat by Shanks crew and lost his left arm and also got a huge scar which goes over his left eye connecting him even more with shanks.(more hatred/anger). That scar is most likely from shanks himself. I think it also itches when he remembers him cause that is a common theme in one piece.
He realised he wasnt able to solo shanks crew and retreated just to form an alliance later on.
