Up for some speculation?

Shanks is Imu and is the finak villain

1. Both have a penchant for maintaining the balance of the world
2. Both have keen interest in two D clan members Luffy and Blackbeard
3. Both use similar swords
4. Both have/had a straw hat
5. Shanks has undue influence on WG
6. Im is the name of a giant from norse mythology. Shanks has connections to norse mythology

Now let me debunk this

We have only seen Imu using 1 hand (left) in every manga panel. However, Shanks only has right hand. So, unless some deeper subversion is going on this can’t be true

If Shanks is Imu or somehow related to Imu, he has only helped to bring Luffy this far as he may want to get One Piece to retrieve One Piece you need Joy Boy.

As much as i want that twist to happen (Gorosei never even have seen Imu's face, Shanks' crew frequently found the Captain's Room to be strangely empty, Imu always disappears the momeny Shanks is present) i don't think it will be the case

...if that is the case and Imu's / Shanks' dream is to finally meet his equal tho? To rule the world together or to achieve the state of eternal opposition that balance the world? I will sincerely praise Oda for this.
