Loki is a good guy. Mosa knew from talking to him over a long distance.
Luffy got the same feeling. Otherwise he wouldn't have freed him.
Shanks is a smart guy. He must have known aswell. I don't think he defeated Loki because he believed the lies about him, like some village idiot (or Hajrudin).
There must be a different reason than ending "Loki's reign of terror".
We just found out that Mosa is almost certainly Shirahoshi.
Very obvious idea that comes to mind is that Loki is the other sovereign the Seakings mentioned.
If we assume Loki is Uranus, suddenly alot makes sense. For example his eyes, which are alot weirder than the ringed eyes, that some have, and totally unique.
Also his thunderattack. Most assumed the lightning was somehow caused by his hammer. Why should the hammer be able to do this though?
Uranus is said to controll the weather. It was Loki himself.
Shanks bound Loki to the Adams Tree, so that he wouldn't run around, so that the World Government (or Blackbeard) wouldn't find out about his powers, so that he wouldn't get captured by evil forces. Shanks was protecting Loki. Uranus had to be hidden until Luffy was ready to usher in a new world order.
