To support my claim to this theory lets go back to time yasu was looking after hakumai port.
Shimotsuki were def right hand men of shogun. They were probably one of the few clans who will sacrifice their life for greater good. The connection between yasu, ushimaru , ryuuma and zoro is undeniable proof that they might all be related.
What happened to this clan ? Why did it disappear? I believe orochi def had hand in this. He was unable to threaten yasu damiyo of hakumai into his bidding.
Orochi may have planned ethnic cleansing or war against shimototsuki clan.Its possible koshiro is also a part of shimotsuki clan who were banished or survived orochis schemes. What happened 22 years ago is still unknown. Its possible zoros was one of the survivors in this massacre?
No wonder orochi seemed surprised yasu was alive when they meet. He probably thought yasu died. What exactly happened two decades ago is still mystery?
