I love Smoker because he showed WHY Koby believed in the Marines and wanted to be a Marine. Imagine living in a town full of pirates, that's constantly getting looted because it's the town Roger was executed in, and then this guy shows up and stops it all overnight.

Is Smoke one of the strongest characters in the series? Hell no, and neither is Tashigi. But, I respect the hell out of them, because, like Koby, they're true Marines: dedicated people who want to help others. Hilariously enough, I think Bell-mere and Smoker would get along pretty well.

Smoker actually hurt Vergo pretty good.I shame Oda decided to trash him that arc,he also did well vs Law.The Doffy thing doesn't count,because he was injured and got used as a hypetool.

Smoker dominates Luffy three times (Loguetown, Alabasta, Marineford) and loses once (he was still stronger than Sanji because Smoker=Vergo>Sanji) and all of a sudden he is a joke character that will never become strong again. He will become the next Admiral when Fujitora becomes Fleetadmiral.

I wouldnt fret. Maybe he undergoes some training arc with vegapunk

Sanji hit Vergo once while Smoker on panel was shown sending Vergo flying across the room twice also once with a punch and also with an elbow.

Base Smoker punch was shown to do as much or more damage than Diable Jambe Sanji kick.

Smoker hit Vergo more times than Sanji did against a Vergo who was fighting considerably more serious based on the tools he was using in the fights.
