So far yes, Oda missed the chance at the end of Egghead. There was no tension, no danger feeling even thought you had 5 Gorosei+Admiral+entire Fleet there.

The strawhats escaped with just few minimal bruises, Luffy wasn't even much hurt depends of getting hit manytimes, including Sanji IJ Hell memories hit him.

We had two escape arcs since post timeskip, Oda did the escape part in WCi arc far better since there was clearly more tension, Luffy barely could alive back, you feelt the overwhelmed force of the Big Mom pirates.

Egghead was the complete opposite.
Kizaru mental nerfed and pretty much done after killing Vegapunk, so you can excuse him.

In fact he was more danger to the strawhats than the Gorosei lol. Saturn and the other Gorosei had crazy aura when they entered the stage. Everything got wasted once they actually fought.

Same giant group who got stomped by Imu this chapter, been able to hold their own against the Gorosei and Navy.

if your characters escape the arc against 5 Gorosei with barely scratches, you made lot of things wrong.

For Elbaf so far Imu did a good job.
The main point will be how it will continue?
I'm be honest the final villian should get Enel threatment. Like stomping anyone, beating even Luffy and Loki. There are lot ways to give the villian a great portrayal this arc, make it similar to impel down or marineford.

Imu should not lose a 1on1 battle yet, even with Gunko body. He can use a excuse like Imu losing the control of Gunko body to end this arc in a victory for the strawhats.

In my opinion he should do a surprise event. Make a unpredicable end for elbaf. This is arc maybe the last one where a villian can go home with a massive W against the strawhats.

Way better, benefitting this is clearly not a conventional arc. I said this already speculating but this arc confirms that the spread at the end of Egghead was basiacly the start of the Final war.
I dont think Egghead was shit a arc tho

It is for me.

If we compare how many chapters we’ve had so fsr in Elbaf to how many chapters we had in EH, I think it would be roundabout where Garp vs Kuzan happened (so where the anime finished up for it’s break). So no Saturn or Kizaru, no Kuma flashback, no Gorosei.

The best parts of that first half of Egghead, in all honesty, were the cutaways to the rest of the world. On Egghead itself, I wasn’t totally invested in the traitor plotline, or the seven Vegapunks. Bonney only really started to shine for me with the flashback which contextualised her behaviour. There had been okay fights, but nothing amazing. It was a decent arc, but not thrilling.

I think Elbaf it’s been much stronger. I love the setting more than Egghead (more of a fantasy than a sci fi guy). I thought the lego opening was strong. Loki’s a great character. We haven’t needed to spend a lot of timesetting up the other giants, because they’ve already been introduced. The HKs have been good villains (especially Sommers), a Brook backstory was wildly unexpected. The Harley

My only main disappointment is that Usopp has done nothing so far. And I do think Gaban has been utilised in the most boringly predictable way.

Mixed feelings.

Egghead did well with pacing outside of flashback. And we got outside updates frequently.

Elbaf is nice with new plots and Imu reveal. But no outside update
