I’m just going to skip the fight in its entirety now. When I read an arc that’s been hyped and planned for close to a decade and it’s filled with Cartoon Network level gags, I completely lose interest. This fight has made me take back what I said about hating Luffy vs Katakuri. It’s actually a masterpiece compared to this idiocy.

You really cannot expect me to believe that Luffy is truly angry at Kaido for what he’s done to Tama, Toko, Yamatrash and Lolden. Luffy vs Doflamingo and the shattering of Plotcage gave me much more of a liberator vibe than Gary Sun God Stu Lulffy.

It improved for me

Every time we cut back to the fight pre G5 it was more of the same. ACoC as a powerup was interesting till I realized it's just armament on steroids

There's a lot more diversity now that Luffy has a new gear and seeing Kaido try to deal with Luffy's newfound strength is exciting to say the least

Idk how to explain it... it's just really fun to watch the whole thing go down

The choreography could be better but the Gigant panel is my favorite in all of Onigashima

I legit felt quite hyped the chapter where kaido showed FS and well him taking the upper hand again but more overwhelming.
Like after long time more focused in Luffy fight then the Nika mess happened so my hype died out.

Legendary DF feared by all the WG....yeah sell me a flying car next time.

What new DF powers he gets is irrelevant my issue is the out of sudden new status Luffy DF gets which is to be honest unnecessary Luffy was already special heck Imu already set his eyes on him (reverie arc) he only needed to beat Kaido and well bring down the Yonko system which would have make him the prime danger in OP verse.

Like if freedom is the point of the story then why give him stuff that will only give more attention to his already set destiny...heck if the DF look for Luffy then did he even had a choice?jeez

I really like Gear 5 at this point. Minus the color scheme, because that sounds like some 7th palette shit in a fighting game.

We wondered about the drawbacks and here they are. Luffy's imagination is massive and that's the strength of this fruit, however his gas tank is not infinite and so there's a discrepancy. It's involuntary and brand new, so he's also not efficient with it. He fucking starts dying mid fight, that's better than the best gag because of the gravitas

Literally this shit during the biggest fight in 100 volumes

There are times where it feels like Oda wrote himself into a corner, but this is not one of them. The fact that the most ridiculous power is broken in strength but hampers its own effectiveness by being ridiculous is well... perfect as a power up for Luffy. This is exactly why I held off on giving it a low score last week.

G5 isn't even that strong in terms of dealing damage, G4 was arguably just as effective if not more when it came to damaging Kaidou, awakening just allows Luffy to party to the max, so far both the gorosei and Kaidou have hyped it's versatility and freedom to do whatever the user wants. It's extremely hard to contain (nearly impossible) and gives Luffy insane defensive capabilities, but it's not damaging Kaidou any more than even the G2+G3 combos.

As for your question, I don't know how to feel, it depends on how the fight ends. If the tone changes by the final couple chapters, I'm gonna be able to appreciate this little acid trip before the finale, as long as Kaidou isn't defeated in this comedic way.

I hope the tone changes in the climax of the fight, Luffy becoming emotionally invested thus channeling his rage into freedom concept, creating an absolutely dreadful form, attack, and fighting atmosphere.
