The first half of his crew (OG) and the fodder subordinates refer to him as "Commodore"

While the second half of his crew (Impel Down escapees + Kuzan) simply refer to him by his name, they're not paying respect to his title

Does this imply they're not as loyal as the OG members and may betray him later in the future?

It might be another Rocks situation where the crew is full of outlaws who don't trust each other and simply joined forces for a mutual agenda and shared goal...

Intressting detail, is that consistent through the whole manga?

I'd have to do a whole re-readthrough just to 100% double check, but yes that seems to be the case

some extra notes:

1- Teach has only been called Commodore AFTER the timeskip but not before (his OG crew used to call him Captain / Sensho back then)

2- The latest anime episode 1156 emphasizes this even more by adding 2 new lines for Burgess and Devon that were NOT in the manga

>Burgess tells BB to look through the window to see the fodders cheering for him and uses the word Commodore / Teitoku

>Devon tells Pizarro they brought Caribou along because "Teach wanted it" she used his name not his title again

Pretty big if true, seems way too deliberate to be coincedence if the case. Could be a betrayal plot but certainly i think oda is planning something than

Another bit to add, but in chapter 1087, Pizarro was pissed off that BB (his own captain) was hogging all the spotlight and wanted to take some credit for himself instead

Does a loyal crew member say something like this? Can you imagine Zoro getting pissed off because Luffy's bounty keeps increasing?

You gotta remember some of these folks are former level 6 Impel Down prisoners who were locked up for the most heinous crimes, so backstabbing seems normal to expect here, right?

But we'll see how Oda goes with it...

There's a difference between the Rocks pirates and those who follow BB. Teach has made his crew part of his plan, everyone knows about Imu and what their captain intends to do to take over the world. Xebec never even mentioned Imu to Harald, even though he knew Harald intended to ally with the WG.
BB's crew is way more invested in their captain's plan than the RP ever were, but they would betray Teach at the first mistake. Something WB or others would never have done to Xebec.

Except WB literally abandoned his captain as soon as he noticed he got bigger, grew wings, fangs, and attacked his crew out of nowhere when he never did that before...

Only Garp and Roger somehow figured out something was wrong with him but not his own crew? Nope, they immediately run away...

I could care less about Laido or Big Meme but WB doing that was really in bad taste for Loda to write.

They think they were betrayed by Xebec. Roger and Garp could hear Xebec’s voice, which is why they sensed something was off.
I agree it’s weird that they didn’t realize the truth, because it was pretty obvious Xebec was under the influence of some power, but that’s what happened.
