Character Discussion Spoilers! Yamato identity?

Okay so in the recent chapter 1051, a lot has happen, I’m not going into detail but I’ll just say that it was a amazing chapter!

Regardless something caught my eye, in this chapter Yamato told the rest of the SH that she would be joining as Kozuki Oden. Now, I never really cared how much Oda has stretched the “I’m Kozuki Oden” joke. At first I thought is was funny but the constant stretch of the joke got very tiring. That being said, I was hoping we would see Yamato’s real identity as a person, not just a person who wants to live through the life of a dead man.

It’s okay to have inspiration from those we idealize. We often have the goal to have the same traits like them. But at the end of the day we are also different, after all we’re two different people. For example, I idealize Elizabeth Schuyler, I love her kindness towards others and I wish to always be like that. But I’m also my own person with my own traits and hobby’s.

Yamato to me just seems to lack this, and I was really hoping the longer we got to know her, the more she would be and sound like her own person. But even in the flashback she wants to be exactly like Oden.

What are your thoughts on this?

I think you're over thinking it.
She's generally being herself, and her goal make be the same as Odens but that's not really important. Oden is an Ideal she doesn't actually act like him, in a superficial way.

People are making too much of it IMO. Yamato just admires Oden and respects his Will.

I think Yamato's character goals will be clearer when we get the rest of Kaido's backstory from King, and a backstory of the Oni race as a whole. To me, Yamato is the Oni who will change the fate of the Oni race. Really excited for those storylines.

Straw hats will reject her for not being herself,every straw hat so far has embraced his past and has dreams of their own. Yamato will get a reality check and improve her character by quitting with the retarded oden cosplay.Her dream of sailing the world seems a bit cliche too.

I'm not 100% convinced on Yamato joining. I don't have a problem with her, it just feels like a big red herring...

But, knowing about her can be on the ship while sailing. So there will be option to draw a story' per chapter, even if it will be considered as filler.
