Sun God Nika Never Truly Existed
You know, Kizaru had never seen or heard of a bird that could do what Marco did. It's possible the myths of the myth fruits were originally just myths. Ideas. They didn't truly exist. The same thing is true with Nika. For example, on one hand, Marco's Fruit may have been derived from a folktale about a Phoenix, and, on the other hand, the Nika Fruit may have been derived from the Elbaf story about a Sun God. However, this would not be considered a natural phenomenon. Instead, it is unnatural because it is based on advanced technology turning the dreams of people into reality using Devil Fruits, and not natural evolution.
It would be natural if it occurred because of natural evolution, but the Devil Fruits are highly likely to be the result of advanced technology developed by the Ancient Kingdom which creates a bridge between the natural and the supernatural. Therefore, the Devil Fruits and their abilities are not, strictly speaking, products of natural evolution. They are man-made constructs that house supernatural energies, and when someone consumes one, they begin to develop unnatural powers. Although they are inherently unnatural, they are not considered magical because they are the product of mankind's progress in science and technology.
With that said, it should be noted that all mythological Devil Fruits should fall into this same line of reasoning. They never truly existed as living beings. Instead, they began as a dream or a belief and that dream or belief was turned into some fruit.
In any case, with that said, it is unlikely that the Sun God Nika ever truly existed. If he did exist naturally as a product of natural evolution, then things he does may be considered magical and that would contradict the rules of the story concerning Devil Fruit abilities. Many people currently believe that Nika existed before Joyboy did, but I have my doubts about that. We know the Giants had a myth about Nika the Sun God, but did any of the Giants say they met Nika before Joyboy? I get the feeling that readers are taking the myth about Nika the Sun God as PROOF that he existed before Joyboy, and that may not be true. It's a wild leap of logic.
