General & Others Supernova Crews Rewritten Thread

#1
Lets be honest Oda hasnt treated the Supernovas Crews well, only recently we learnt how laws crew fought properly as well as only learning the names of some of kids crew in sbs 102, so why dont we develop them like they were villains or they were rivals in pretty much any manga. Examples of ideas we could discuss are;

• Adding members from other remnants of crews (eg Beast Pirates, Whitebeard Pirates, Big Mom Pirates, Wildcards in the New World like Perona)
• Making new characters(if making characters stick to the crews naming theme eg heart pirates = artic animals, kid pirates = related to concerts in some sort etc)
• Changing of/Giving Fighting styles to existing characters (eg giving Jean Bart strong armanment to fulfil his role better)
• Giving Devil Fruits to existing Characters (eg Giving Wire the Straw Fruit after hawkins died)
• Structure of the Crew (included role and strength like commander and officers)

Right now feel free to use this thread to drop your ideas

This was always my two cents regarding the Super Scrubs. Just combine their crews.
I keep saying that the Supernovas are not comparable to Luffy in the slightest for a reason. Lol.

Oda screwed himself over by having eleven Supernovas split across nine whole feckin crews.

Nine crews means nine subplots and dozens of characters to support those subplots, which is a lot of effort for a group of characters that Oda just added in for flavour at a point in the story where they were introduced far too late to even matter.

The Supernovas should have been condensed into four crews, one for each sea.

Luffy/Zoro/Straw Hats from East Blue.

Kidd/Killer/Bonney from South Blue.

Drake/Hawkins/Law from North Blue.

Bege/Apoo/Urouge from West Blue/Grand Line.

This would have made each crew far more manageable and more impressive. The other crews could even compete with the Straw Hats.

Instead, Oda has spread them out far too thin and has Zoro defeating Supernova captains that are supposed to be Luffy's rivals. Super Scrubs indeed. Lel.

Law 's crew is still filled with a bunch of fodder, I think it would've been better to have him recruit people as he's adventuring with Luffy. The three recruits should've been

Monet: Wasted character design and DF. Instead lets make her a traitor who sides with Law to "save" her sister from Doflamingo's brainwashing. We would miss out on the Monet vs Zoro and Tashigi fight but honestly it did more harm to Tashigi than good to Zoro.

Baby 5: She had 0 character arc, she went from being extremely co dependent on whoever said they needed her to being extremely co dependent on the first guy who showed any genuine care aside from Doffy. Instead after meeting Sai, have Sai or maybe Baby5 herself figure out that she needs to figure herself out before jumping into another "relationship" just because a guy was sweet to her. You could still pair them by EOS, just give Baby5 a better character arc.

Buffalo: Another one of Law's childhood friends, you could just have Law recruit him because he thinks it would be a waste to leave him behind. He could be the reluctant crewmember who eventually shows care for his crew down the line.

Kid is another character who's supposed to be Luffy's rival who really doesn't show many of the charismatic features we are led to believe he has. To begin with I think Kid should've had a massive fleet. Kid's epithet "Captain" could be because he has many underlings spread around the seas. In Onigashima you could have his fleet come to Wano as reinforcements, giving him a bigger role in the defeat of the Yonko with his influence. Then after Onigashima you could have him recruit some of the F6 as his ship captains since they were former pirate captains.

I'd limit it to 4 rival crews. One for each sea out there, the 'best of the best' so to speak. And, this is no fault to Oda since he had made the supernova last minute, I would foreshadow them earlier in the story.

Crocus makes a direct comparison between Luffy and a band of rowdy pirates back at the light house, favoring Luffy.
Daz Bones was called back from hunting down a Mafioso with a high bounty for the start of Operation Utopia.
Kaku laments the fact that a high profile marine turncoat got away from Water-7 because they were unable to act while incognito.
Hogback name drops a pirate as being an unparalleled doctor who chooses to take lives instead of saving them.

Nothing to distract the reader from the on-going plot, but hints of future characters and their importance to the plot.

  • The Kid Pirates from South Blue
    • Eustass Kidd as the captain
    • Killer as his firstmate
    • Scratchman Apoo as the crew lookout
    • Heat
    • Wire
Apoo fits the general music theme of the crew and I think his angry relationship with Kidd would make for tons of comedic scenarios and give the crew a lot more personality as a whole. Killer is the straight man trying to stop the two from killing each other.

  • The Corazon Pirates from North Blue
    • Trafalgar D. Water Law as the captain
    • Jewelry Bonney as the vice captain
    • Bepo as the second in command & navigator
    • Jean Bart as a powerful crewmember
    • Baby-5 as a powerful crewmember

Baby-5 joining post-dressrosa makes too much sense. They're childhood friends and she's very redeemable, she even got her own flashback. You could add Buffalo in there too but IMO you don't need to waste the ink.

Jewelry Bonney is someone who I think should have been paired with Law as a near equal. Both of them are tied to Shichibukai who are, coincidentally, introduced together after Alabasta. With similar goals and powerful fruits, I think they'd make for interesting bedfellows. Set their situation as more of an agreement—Bonney helps Law take Doflamingo down and this world class doctor will help her undo Vegapunk's mutilations on Kuma.

  • The Firetank Pirates from West Blue
    • Capone Bege as the captain
    • Urouge as a powerful crewmember
This idea tickles me pink. Capone is a very sensibly dressed man who enjoys attention, being wealthy and showing off his life style to others. Urouge is a giant, religious sky monk who has no tact whatsoever. I'd 100% pair them up with Capone Bege being the one to save Urouge's life after he lost to Enel—details don't matter much—and Urouge swearing his life to the godfather.

But the idea of Bege constantly berating Urouge for acting first and thinking second, of being classless and trying to educate him on style only for Urouge to tear apart an expensive suit mid fight, is too funny for me.
  • The Drake Pirates from the Grandline
    • X Drake as the captain
    • Basil Hawkins as the firstmate
I'd keep the SWORD plot, X Drake 'defects' in the middle of the Grandline at a random Marine base and frees a number of pirates being held there, forcing them into his new crew and to give him some credibility as a pirate. Among them is Basil Hawkins who acts as a foil to X Drake. Drake is a pirate but tries to avoid needless plunder and savagry whereas Hawkins will challenge him and insist that a pirate would attack a merchant ship and let its passengers feed the neptunians.

It would be a reluctant and difficult relationship where Hawkins has some idea that X Drake isn't done being a marine but remains by his side, convinced that it'll lead him somewhere fruitful.

How would Bonney had worked in the Dressrosa Saga? Just have her sit in Zou as the de facto captain since Law is on a suicide mission?

it’s also so tempting to introduce guys like Kid and Law earlier in the story. I honestly think it could’ve worked in hindsight, but we all know they introduced last minute lol
