General & Others The mythological symbolism of the Gorosei

#1
I haven't seen many people point this out, but the Gorosei are seemingly based on the Wufang Shangdi from traditional Chinese mythology.

Traditionally, China believed that there were 5 major planets ruling over the cosmos: Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars, and Venus. It was believed that these planets corresponded to the five basic elements (Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, and Metal) and the 5 deities ruling over Heaven, or the Wufang Shangdi.

Of these 5 deities, the most important was Huangdi, or the Yellow Emperor, who was represented by the planet Saturn. It's no secret that Saturn has gotten the most focus out of the five original Gorosei, so I think it's probably safe to call him the most important (at least in the context of the narrative). Huangdi was widely believed to be a prolific inventor who created houses, wheelbarrels, writing, compasses, and a ton of other inventions (tying into how Saturn was a scientist) and is sometimes credited as one of the architects of Chinese civilization. He was probably a real person, but he's one of those figures who's so intertwined in myth that it's hard to say anything definitive about him.

I just thought that was interesting
