I think the latter book volumes have gradually lost their appeal. The first 3 books were among the best child experience since Rowling write a good atmosphere of fantasy world building, awesome creatures, and there were some main characters that served as our representative of being amazed by such worldbuilding.

Movies are a bad form of media for adaption of long books.
Tge series format makes much more sense.
But when the movies came out this was the normal procedure for popular books. Long series were not really a thing like they are now

Well it's really difficult adapt a fantasy genre.
Also they do miss out on a lot of details.

Hardcore fans. The casuals don't care about that. And the casual fans are by far the majority. The movies were ok imo.
But pushing out reboots when it's not even been 15 years since the last movie released is not great.
