Throughout OP there’s something of a lore question that we never get answered.
What’s going on on the red line?
Throughout OP, there are only two locations in the red line we have seen. Reverse mountain and mariejois. The rest of the red line, despite being the prime meridian of the OP world, is basically never mentioned. Why?
I have a theory. What if the rest of the red line is some sort of toxic hellscape? A place incompatible with human life.
This explains why we never hear about other countries or cities on the red line. Mariejois is the one and only place humans can live on the red line, hence it is the “holy land”.
The rest of the red line is basically poisoned and going through there will give you sapphire scale disease.
I think at some point, Ginny tried to escape mariejois, found herself in the toxic part of the red line, and then developed the disease that eventually killed her. A disease she passed down to Bonney.
This also explains why the red line was home to the lunarians. Due to their unique bodies, they alone could survive in the red line. At least, until they were wiped out.
