Theory The red line causes Sapphire Scale disease

Throughout OP there’s something of a lore question that we never get answered.

What’s going on on the red line?

Throughout OP, there are only two locations in the red line we have seen. Reverse mountain and mariejois. The rest of the red line, despite being the prime meridian of the OP world, is basically never mentioned. Why?

I have a theory. What if the rest of the red line is some sort of toxic hellscape? A place incompatible with human life.

This explains why we never hear about other countries or cities on the red line. Mariejois is the one and only place humans can live on the red line, hence it is the “holy land”.

The rest of the red line is basically poisoned and going through there will give you sapphire scale disease.

I think at some point, Ginny tried to escape mariejois, found herself in the toxic part of the red line, and then developed the disease that eventually killed her. A disease she passed down to Bonney.

This also explains why the red line was home to the lunarians. Due to their unique bodies, they alone could survive in the red line. At least, until they were wiped out.

Mariejose is on the red line
Which means the reverie is on the red line
Which means the celestial dragons are living on the red line
Which means hundreds maybe thousands of marines and e
Wg officials are stationed on the red line
Which means hundreds of slaves are forced to live on the red line

If the redline was the cause of this disease why did the doctor who examined it on Bonney say it was rare

If the redline was a toxic place the celestial dragons wouldn't live there and Mariejose wouldn't be built there

Whatever Ginny had that Bonney later got was something that's passed down genetically

Example if a man/woman has aids and then they have a child

That child may develop aids because it's in the blood

I was specifically talking about the parts of the red line outside of reverse mountain and mariejois, literally the only locations on the red line we have ever heard about.

I think one specific disease doesn't make much sense. If it's a hazardous hellscape, then why aren't there many types of hazards? It's just one? Sapphire scale everywhere?

I prefer to think they experiment on humans and this creates various kinds of diseases. They may make someone sick just to see what happens to them.

That is far more sinister than them just being exposed to a harsh climate. In fact, it detracts from the evil nature of the Celestial Dragons themselves.

They release people when they get too sick of being exposed to the climate? I'm going to ask for evidence now that the Red Line produces any kind of diseases at all, and since you're unlikely to produce any evidence then I am saying this is a weak argument.

The whole point of the red line is that that you can only cross it at 2 points.
This may or may not include crossing it by flight.

I write it off as plot convenience and do not think about it too much.
Same goes for Sapphire Sickness. Its just meant to be incurable and deadly to make Kuma sad.
