We know that the kitetsu was created by Sukiyaki. This means that it had to have come to east blue from wano at some point, likely with the group of samurai that founded Shimotsuki Village.
Hence imo, the sandai kitetsu was the sword of either Pinzoro or Arashi. I'm leaning on it being Pinzoro's sword, as he is Zoro's namesake, but it could also be Arashi's, as he was murdered by pirates(and the sandai kitetsu is said to be a cursed sword). The sword could also be a family sword, owned by Pinzoro and then passed down to Arashi.
Regardless, imo this is a sword that was a big part of the Roronoa family.
Two of Zoro's swords, the wado and enma, were created by Kozaburo. They are swords that originate from the shimotsuki clan. And hence imo, Kitetsu must also have some deeper significance to Zoro. Given its ties to wano, I think it being the sword of Zoro's father/grandfather could be the deeper significance Oda has in store for it.
