To beat:
verb
1. strike (a person or an animal) repeatedly and violently so as to hurt or injure them, typically with an implement such as a club or whip.
Example: "if we were caught we were beaten"
2. defeat (someone) in a game or other competitive situation.
Example: "she beat him easily at chess"
noun
1. a main accent or rhythmic unit in music or poetry.
Example: "the glissando begins on the second beat"
2. the movement of a bird's wings.
Example: "the beat of the swallow's wings as they dive after midges"
adjective
1. completely exhausted.
Example: "I'm beat—I need an hour or so to rest"
2. relating to the beat generation or its philosophy.
Example: "beat poet Allen Ginsberg"
To defeat
verb
1. win a victory over (someone) in a battle or other contest; overcome or beat.
Example: "Arab armies defeated the Byzantine garrison"
noun
1. an instance of defeating or being defeated.
Example: "she had still not quite admitted defeat"
As we see there is definition of beat that is the same as defeat but in this thread I will separate both(using the other definition of beat). Beat will be just spanking while defeat will be COMPLETE victory.
So in this arc we already had few fights. We had Luffy vs Lucci. Zoro vs Kaku. And we can say we also had Stussy vs Kaku, Stussy vs Lucci, Lucci vs Sentomaru and Kizaru vs Sentomaru. Plus all Seraphim fights
The outcomes of each?
Luffy vs Lucci
Zoro + Stussy vs Kaku
Stussy vs Lucci
Lucci vs Sentomaru
Kizaru vs Sentomaru
Seraphims
As we can see. Luffy beated Lucci. Lucci beated Sentomaru. Although Zoro had the upper hand with Kaku he didn't beated him so I'm not even bothering showing panels of their fight. But thing is. Those fights ended with only a beating. Not a complete defeat. Even Lucci losing counsciouness for a short time period he was fine right after. Finally Seraphim were also all beaten although S-Snake managed to completely defeat Franky and others(still counts as a defeat even that she had to turn them back).
On the other side. We have Stussy completely defeating both Kaku and Lucci(double "kill") and Kizaru completely defeating Sentomaru.
What is the difference? Kaku and Lucci were out for a reasonable amount of time they only got conscious again when Seraphim started to attack. Sentomaru was said to be finished by Usopp although he can get up next chapter and I would have to downgrade Kizaru feat of defeating Sentomaru to just beating him.
And what I want with that? You all already know (but no is not damage control)...
Zoro right now is facing Lucci and just like Sentomaru was firstly beated to only then be defeated the same will happen to Lucci.
And perhaps the same can occur to Seraphims. They were firstly beaten to later be defeated. But I wouldn't bet on that in this arc.
So about the Luffy vs Kizaru fight. My bet is on Kizaru winning. He definitely won't defeat Luffy but there is chance of him beating Luffy although I will bet on them somewhat stalling. My real bet is that Kizaru will focus on his 3 main objectives and after killing Vegapunk all strawhats will have no other option but escape from Egghead.
So Kizaru's mission is to kill Vegapunk while not allowing any collateral damage on York, Punk Records and Power Plant.
I'm not sure where Punk Records and Power Plant is exactly located but Luffy fighting Kizaru outside of the lab and Zoro now fighting Lucci outside too I would say those things are pretty much safe from collateral damage as well as York. Now all that rests is Vegapunk to hack York code and allow the escape or they would need something else to make that happen(Zoro cutting the defenses? Luffy's awakening opening an exit?).
