Here's my top 5 power systems of course I haven't seen all the same anime has all of you so I'm curious what curve balls people will throw in.

5. Zatch Bell- you younglings may not know about this gem I grew up watching it on TV and it was always a treat the power system was so cool basically these demons called mamoodo (not sure if I spelt that right) form a kind of bond/pact with a human in our world, and the human gets like a spell book with spells in it but not all the pages are filled they have to unlock more abilities by fighting and strengthening their bonds

4- when supernatural powers become common place- another hidden gem and while it doesn't technically have a set power system I think the powers and abilities shown are so cool, it's fun twist on the slice of life genre such great series with amazing powers

3- one piece- not only does one piece have devil fruits but it also has haki and I don't think I really need to explain what one piece is here do I? The power system is great I really enjoy all the unique powers and abilities it's great to see what fresh new devil fruits oda comes up with

2. Full metal Alchemist- to be 100% precise I mean the brotherhood variation the alchemy in that series was so fun to watch the levels of creativity and seeing how everyone has different alchemy and how they use it, not to mention one of my top 5 antagonist is all of anime the homie wrath legendary

Now before we reveal our #1 pick let's have honorable mentions

A- Fairy Tail - I enjoy the power system but imo most of the Magic there is kinda the same just with different skin doesn't seem to creative

B- Naruto- Chakra is cool however just like fairy tail it feels kinda like a bunch of the same powers hell even more so than fairytail if you think about it

C- HXH - honestly I just don't get this one 100% it's complicated and I'm sure it would rank higher but i haven't watched the series in 10 years and lost interest in the manga after the 3rd hiatus

Now for the grand finale

1. Pokemon- it just makes sense! Water types beat fire types so many different pokemon with different teams and combinations

1) Toaru - For not having 1 but 2 very distinct and intricate power systems - Magic and Esper powers, powers coming down to sheer skill and wits, and knowing the ins and out of not just your own powers but the opponents.

2) JoJo - Stand Power - Just love how increasingly creative Araki gets with both his Stands and fights with each Part and how the way the power system works, fights are a battle of wits and resourcefulness over just power levels

3) Naruto - Early on especially when other clans and side characters had more focus and thing were generally balanced, Kishi had a really neat power system with chakra and all kinds of cool abilities between Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu

4) Full Metal Alchemist: Took the real life idea behind Alchemy and made it anime AF. Especially rewards you if your familiar with the real life chemical reactions and what not at work with certain applications of Transmutation.

5) Newtype powers in Gundam, mainly UC: Pretty cool applications ranging from precognition and heightened situational awareness to more far out stuff like powering up one’s Mobile Suit by channeling the spirits of the dead, disabling other Mobile Suits, seeing through time and even outright mind screw

But I love how it integrates into the themes being conveyed in Gundam, with how learning to connect and cooperate one another is key to stopping war. This applies to NewTypes with their heightened awareness of each other and ability to read the emotions of others.

Can we call it power system?

Each demon basically has their power decided by birth and can't changed (I didn't watched it fully althougt I'd like to). They can only become "stronger" during the war by unlocking new spells but when two demons facing each other has the same amoun of spell one that was born stronger will win (of course there is strategy too) because there is no other way to increase their power.

4- when supernatural powers become common place- another hidden gem and while it doesn't technically have a set power system I think the powers and abilities shown are so cool, it's fun twist on the slice of life genre such great series with amazing powers
Never heard that. Will take a look. It is manga or anime?

3- one piece- not only does one piece have devil fruits but it also has haki and I don't think I really need to explain what one piece is here do I? The power system is great I really enjoy all the unique powers and abilities it's great to see what fresh new devil fruits oda comes up with
In my understanding Haki is the power system not DF. Because everyone has haki and you can grow stronger with it. Although DF can grow stronger too it is not for everyone.

For example Bleach has spiritual power that everyone has. But Shinigami have powers that only belons to them. Quincy and Hollows too. Those "species" of Bleach would be the DF of One Piece.

2. Full metal Alchemist- to be 100% precise I mean the brotherhood variation the alchemy in that series was so fun to watch the levels of creativity and seeing how everyone has different alchemy and how they use it, not to mention one of my top 5 antagonist is all of anime the homie wrath legendary
To me it sucks as power system. You can think it is cool but as power system it sucks. We can't see any character growing in power through it. It seems you either is born strong or not.

A- Fairy Tail - I enjoy the power system but imo most of the Magic there is kinda the same just with different skin doesn't seem to creative
I had a hard time trying to give Fairy Tail a shot. And just quit it. Too boring and like you said all attacks looks the same at least from the main guy. It seems all he can do is Fire Fist from Ace. Can't say about power system though although from AMVs it seems author constantly mess up with protagonist power level.

B- Naruto- Chakra is cool however just like fairy tail it feels kinda like a bunch of the same powers hell even more so than fairytail if you think about it
How can you say that about Chakra? It is one of the most well designed power system. There is the unfairness of people borning with more or less chakra or even the incapability of using nin/genjutsu but you can compesate by learning how to control your chakra to spent less during your jutsus or increasing your taijutsu that any other jutsu becomes irrelevant against you.

C- HXH - honestly I just don't get this one 100% it's complicated and I'm sure it would rank higher but i haven't watched the series in 10 years and lost interest in the manga after the 3rd hiatus
Nen is probably the best power system ever created. You see one can easily train to increase your power through nen while also having tricks to momentarily increase it by conditions.

1. Pokemon- it just makes sense! Water types beat fire types so many different pokemon with different teams and combinations
Again this is no power system for me. The power system of pokemon would be level up. A Magikarp lv 100 that knows tackle/water gun/bubbles (instead of just fucking splash) could beat a plant/eletric type pokemon (their counter) of a certain level because of level difference.

But yes the power of Pokemon it is fucking great. But convince me that Fairy beats Dragon. I'm waiting.

My top 5 would be

  1. Solo Leveling (level, stats, pretty basic and effective)
  2. Hunter x Hunter (Nen is the father of power system basically)
  3. One Piece (Haki is pretty basic and effective as well)
  4. Naruto (Chakra is like an evolution of Haki but the author messed up with a bunch of stuff during his work)
  5. Dragon Ball Z (Ki is also pretty basic and effective. Train harder. Gets stronger.)
I also like the power system of Bleach, JJK(although it seems to me kind harder to power up), Yu Yu Hakusho. Can I say Baki and Hajime no Ippo here? Hahahahahaha

Hunter x Hunter (Nen is the father of power system basically)
Its basically a catch all that has no limits.
People who like it call it creativity. People who dislike it call it asspulls.
A good power system needs to have rules that can not be bent or expanded. A real limitation of what can be done with the power.
It is fine if we find out about the ins and outs of a power system little by little and that ingenuity can change how a power is applied. It should still never change what the power can do.
OP at the start used to be like that. Unfortunately that changed. I am not even talking about haki. Even the DF had many restrictions removed.
Naruto another bad path. Chakra being a real limiting factor eventually became of limitless supply.
JoJo Ripple was fine and dandy until it started being applied to bubbles and what not.

A positive example, as far as I am aware (did not follow it to the end), would be the magic system in Jobless Reincarnation.
You are born with capacity. You can extend this capacity. Its still relevant with how much capacity you were born. Tough luck if you were born weak.
The MC develops incantationless spell casting. This in itself does not change how the magic works. The same rules still apply.
The only difference is that he found out that the state of mind is what makes the magic happen. Incantations are nothing more than a crutch to bring the casters mind into this state. A sort of conduit.

Top 5? I can not even think of a top 1, really.
