Was Kuma a fool here?

Kuma had agreement with the WG to trade his consciousness with bonney's cure. But at some point, Bonney was already cured and chased after him. So, why did kuma even bother to keep his promise (having his consciousness removed before the marineford war)?
They were already pirates at that point so the marine would hunt him and bonney. His DF and Bonney DF are also very good to escape so they shouldn't worry much for their lives

Kuma didn't want to risk it I guess.

Dads that step up are willing to sacrifice everything
for their kid.

Plus the WG was completely ignoring all of Bonneys piracy crimes until she attacked Saturn so they actually went above and beyond the agreement :saturn:

Kuma is kind. If he and bonney escaped, the wg would target Sorbet and kill the innocent people there. Kuma wouldn't want that on his conscious. So self sacrifice it is. That's a kind of plausible explanation.
Too much kindness can be considered naive.

Kuma was too kind for his own good that he absolutely forgot the meaning of self worth anymore. Being too selfish is bad, but being too selfless is also bad.

That said, his consciousness being erased didn’t really matter in the end, since Oda still had him come to Egghead to protect Bonney on pure instincts alone, therefore reuniting them again.

Despite his wounds, memories erased, cyborg modifications, etc… he is still hugging her under the sunlight and smiling, so where’s the tragedy here?

Yes he was. He had CoO and a fruit that allowed him and anyone else to teleport, so it would make it easier for him to be on the run.

Also he could use the help of Dragon to hide (he owed the guy that much).

He was a pirate, she was one too, and he knew the WG were scums and won't keep their promise so why would you trust them with the life of your daughter?
