Was the timeskip a good idea? Or did we miss out on a much more intense /high stakes journey on the edge of our seat every arc, wondering how they overcome their obstacles..Actually seeing the characters unlocking haki in battle etc.

It was a good idea given how quickly Strawhats tried to advance without having The power to deal with it.
Strawhats wouldn't have survived Alabasta If plot armour wasn't their.
Time skip was required give them basic Power ups to atleast survive new world.

It was a good idea but how things went it was pointless.

Not saying they didn't got super strong. But given how easy first arcs were they could just have grown there.

This is different from Naruto timeskip where the changes are almost none except for Sasuke maybe.

On top of that i call bs that some kid at his 20s is able to become the strongest in the verse, another classic shonen thing.
Why exactly?

The physical prime of humans is in their 20s.

Just look sports stars - nearly all of them in their 20s.

Heck, take Messi for example: His absolute peak came in his early 20s (2009-2013) and that peak is still considered the best that football/soccer has ever seen by quite some distance.

In fighting sport industry i cant recall anyone but prime Tyson being at his peak at 19-20. Everybody else reach their peak in their late 20s

The timeskip idea is a classic shonen formula.

The execution after the timeskip is tha real problem. On top of that i call bs that some kid at his 20s is able to become the strongest in the verse, another classic shonen thing.
*19. Not even 20's. But yeah, absolute bs. Most of the other crews have been together for 10-30 years but yet here comes these guys who battled Kuro and Don Krieg two months ago upsetting the world.

And they also somehow love each other so much that they will risk their lives for each other as if they had sailed together for 20 years. A fall school term from August - December is longer and I damned sure would not risk my life for any of them and none of us advanced to professor in that span either.

Cant use that real world logic in one piece.

Luffy was a normal wimpy kid. Big mom was born a monster, as was oden. And neither of them was the strongest in the verse at his age, or even near their peak at that age. So its crazy that two characters whose starting points were so far passed luffys, were so quickly overcome by him.

Even just a few months ago, luffy had to jump a yc3.

The marines said 68 year old big mom is stronger than the 30 year old big mom from God Valley. That's 38 years of expirience that 19 year old luffy is about to, if he hasnt already, overcome. Despite the fact that 2 years ago luffy was fodder that would get giggle diffed by vice admiral vergo.

Uh, it's a hard answer in terms of who Straw Hats wanted to become.

This timeskip achieves nothing in terms of character development. They are the same old crew with the same running gags just stronger and not all at that.

Straw Hats needed a training arc asap so for that purpose it was okay. Aside from that TS was useless and OP was never the same ever since it started.

At that point, after what happened in Sabaody all the way to the end of Marineford, it made absolute sense. Luffy and the SHs were not ready and they got broken up.
Now they had to take 2 years and each one has to work on themselves on their own to improve. Oda blew it, but the build up to the TS and how it happened, was great.
