Break Week Was The Fifth Emperor title meaningless?

Yeah, but oda wrote that into the story.

I enjoyed it a lot when it happened but it would seem it was just hype for hype sake.
As far as I was concerned It was only useful to create a "title base" for Luffy to:

- be above YC1s;

- be ready for Wano and so defeat a real Emperor.

But inside the manga It was clear that no one took It seriously. It was just Morgans.
For the rest of the world the Emperors remained four.
The common people continued to say "Yonkou", the Marines didn't even bothered (and we saw with Brannew in 957) and so on.

It was "for us" mostly.

Naah 5th emperor was a title more like Flame emperor for Sabo.
he wasn't really counted in Yonkou System.

Yonkou literally means - 4 Emperor's
Gokou would mean - 5 Emperor's lol

But Emperor were still called Yonkou only. Oda created the system like that only that only 4 Yonkou and 7 Warlord would exist at a time.

So look at 5th Emperor as something like flame emperor not Yonkou type emperor title.

Japanese readers probably understood that.

Ugh, no. That was the beginning of Luffy starting to be called Emperor. You don't become an Emperor overnight. The people have to start calling you that. Bounty is not enough (see Kid and Law).

In reality 5th Emperor meant Luffy was Low Top Tier. His bounty was higher than Marco, King, Katakuri and was considered the "ringleader" because of his bounty in Wano, even Marco.

In fact, that's how we found out Marco's bounty was < Luffy's before VCs came out.

After 1024 chapters, you should understand that Oda is all about hype and very little delivery; let's take a few examples :
-Silouhettes? Hype
Delivery ? Kawamatsu
-Death ? Hype
Delivery ? Will of P
-Days and days of fighting intensely ? Hype
Delivery ? Offpanel
-WSM ? Hype
Delivery ? WB was a dying old man trolled by half MF
-WSC ? Hype
Delivery ? Kaido was very strong so kuddos on this one
-WSS ? Hype
Delivery ? ''Let's postpone Vista'' but to his defense, he still didn't fight anyone seriously yet
-Most wanted man ? Hype
Delivery ? ''...''

Oda simply doesn't deliver very often...

The "payoff" was Luffy getring one-shotted by Kaido later at the start of Wano.

The whole fifth emperor title was just a way of telling us he was nearing that emperor status but wasn't quite there yet, as we readers knew the end of Whole Cake was much more of a clutch escape that needed a ton of help and luck rather than the "complete victory" Morgans described it as.

Never thought of it that way.

Yup, it was meant to give us the expectation that Luffy is ready to tussle with the emperors, and Kaido brought the readers back down to earth

It's like when people use what a character said and went "technically oda is saying it" because he wrote it into the story

It's just one characters viewpoint on something
