He might have been, but if we assume what Law said about Awakening using too much stamina (not for his plot armored ass anyway) then an old sick WB wouldn't have been to use it even if he was awakened.

Same reason why he never showed AdvCoC Haki either. Top tier techniques require top tier vitality.

Can an 80 year old marathon champion run 10km everyday like he used to in his youth?

No, it doesn't even make sense for him to awaken it.
The whole point of the fruit is that it's incredibly destructive and reckless, and Whitebeard is the opposite of that.
Most times we saw him making a decision it was calculated and well thought out.
Only time he did something that was a little reckless and brash was him going to Marineford, but even then he literally intended to die there while saving Ace.
Basically he didn't have the personality fit for the fruit, that's why BB will be the one to awaken it.

Don't think so, Blackbeard pretty much replicated Whitebeard's best Gura feats the moment he got the devil fruit, and it wouldn't make any sense for Whitebeard to not use his awakening in a death battle.
His signature is crazy and to think that these aren't all the attacks kaido has received makes him even crazier.:crazwhat:
About WB's fruit, I don't think he has awakened it, if BB does that it doesn't mean that WB has awakened...

Oda might show W.B awaken in a flashback just like how Oda didn't show Garp using advance CoC when he fought Don Chinjao even though he was in his prime.
So take it as a retcon...
