Were Kanki's methods ever sustainable?

He goes too far. The way he won at Koku You was already alarming. He basically threw away the entire war, gave full control to the Zhao, because he heard about Kisui from his men he tortured. No matter how confident Kanki is, in such a scenario he can't simply bet on the opossing general to forfeit the entire region to save a small ass village just because the people there are close to him.

Had they not won that war the Gyou campaign or rather any further Zhao campaign would've been impossible since they used the western region as bait for the surprise attack.

The way in which he commits to warfare is insane and yet incredibly effective. He beats powerful opponents, they admit it, and yet they all belief he will meet a sticky end. Even if he survived this war, are his methods sustainable? Does he rely on crazy-ness too much for it to continue working for decades?
Kanki's methods are sustainable for Kanki himself since as far as he is concerned, as long as he and his immediate close circle survive then he considers it a win. Everything else and everybody else are completely expendable.

Kanki's methods are not however sustainable for whatever nation he fights for. Kanki is a loose cannon that will happily toss whole armies into the meat grinder as long as he gets the result he desires.

Besides his lack of care for his own troops, Kanki's plans are 100% high risk, high reward, all or nothing gambits. If his plan succeeds then he scores big time. If his plan fails, he is completely screwed.

The current arc shows all of Kanki's flaws as a General for his nation.

The goal of the campaign is to secure Northern Zhao. Kanki has shown zero interest in achieving this goal. He only desires Riboku's head and has taken an egregious amount of risks and subsequent punishments in order to attempt to do just that. He has lost the Fuu Han Army and the Heki Army before he was even in a position to attempt his eventual ambush gambit and now he is set to lose his very own Kanki Army.

The campaign was a failure the moment he lost the vast majority of his men against Riboku's encirclement. Without a large army he couldn't possibly secure Northern Zhao. Everything after that was just Kanki acting on his desire to claim Riboku's scalp.

War is about victory, if you win then all is good.

Besides, Kanki managed to win battles with ridiculous odds, even the last battle he lost to riboku, I actually was more impressed by kanki than riboku.
Riboku had around TRIPLE the numbers and was fighting in his home territory with everyone including the civilians were on riboku side. They managed to 'trap' kanki but how kanki turned it around and managed to trap riboku and even cut his head, but as we all know riboku is not meant to die and was saved by plot armour in the end, tactically kanki was above riboku even with the numerous advantages he had. He thought he knew kanki's weakness after the battle of kokuyou, but he was wrong and kanki escaped his trap with a much smaller force, and since then riboku was dancing on kanki's palm and nearly died.
Give kanki a similar army to riboku and kanki would've killed riboku and conquered the northern Zhao no doubt. It was indeed mission impossible and kanki made it very possible and within reach. Riboku barely escaped defeat even though he had 99% chance victory. Kanki was an inch away from victory but he was working with odds of 1% chance of victory.
