I saw two post with multiple interactions

One was talking about a potential God Valley movie where Redon said the movie wont have any appeal without the straw hats, which many people disagreed with him on

Another, from Tiktok where some guy was sad he had to go back to the "bumhats" after the Rocks Flashback

Of course, there is a reason peopl feel this way and its because Oda has killed off the narrative importance of the straw hats outside Nika.

Fishman Island was abt Fishman and Shirahoshi, Dressrosa was about Law, WCI is the only arc about a straw hat, and then Wano was about the scabbards, etc etc

My question is what does Oda get from this? Sales haven't increased and the straw hats are still in every arc, is it even a smart decision to kill them off narratively to the point no one wants to see them anymore?

I personally agree, but unfortunately that is not the case if you consider the target audience / demographic first...

When Toei executives want to make a new OP film, they don't think about which plotline is most interesting (like full GV flashback), but rather what is EASIEST TO SELL... and sadly, SHs clowns are the most well known characters in OP, so shoehoring them all over the cover of the movie, trailer, teasers, etc, is what gets people coming.

This is the sad reality. Not all OP readers are side characters enjoyers like us, but their majority is just dumb kids, teenagers, and tourist adults who get swooped by mainstream media, and all these people know is "HAHA LUFFY GOMU GOMU NO MUGIWARA CREW LETS GOOO" nothing else.

Each Arc has it's own Main Cast, there is Nothing that says SHs must be Main Cast of every Arc or even Most of them,
They are simply Recurring Side Characters whose Role is Elevated at certain Moments, and are used as witnesses of that Arc's Story,
And Sometimes a SH is included among Main Cast of said Arc (Such as Sanji in Whole Cake Island),

SHs will be Main Cast of Final Arc only, aside from that, it's Luffy Piece, He is the one drawn in One Piece Logo, not his Crew.

Its true that the post-timeskip is Luffy-centered,but i think the reason why the Rocks pirates are more popular between the fandom right now is that the goofy nature of the Strawhats was perfect for a younger audience,but the readers of One Piece in all these years of serialization,grew up,so now we enjoy more these adult characters,who have moral ambiguity,its not all black and white,and there was also many implications about sexual relationships in this flashback etc. so this flashback for its characters and themes feels like a little more mature version of One Piece compared to the goofy adventures of the Strawhats

None of the One piece movies were cannon from what I remember, having a movie that is cannon and with the characters and events that we have seen will guarantee top quality content and animation. The manga is called One Piece not Straw hats or Luffy Shippuden, Oda is not killing the main characters but at this point he gave almost to all of them an arc or space to show development focusing on the story and events ahead only brings focus to the main cast as it shows that they still have to grow because the world they are in has a lot of threats and gives the reader a heads up and not take things for granted that it will be a easy road ahead for the SH.

Also the events of God valley deserve movie quality from the first minute

The damn manga would've ended years ago if Oda/Shueisha weren't greedy. The mecha, old Japan and Atlantis stories would've been turned into seperate mangas.

Oda HIMSELF once said he's planning to do a mecha manga after One Piece, but what did he do instead? Incorporate EVERY. SINGLE. IDEA. he had for other stories in order to maximise sales.
I'm highly sceptical whether even the Ryuma one shot was planned to enter the one piece verse.

I doubt this is only shueisha's /toei's doing. If Oda were to say ''OK guys, I'm done with one piece, next arc they'll find the treasure and defeat the final villain and then I'm off to something else'', it would happen but he's not doing that.

Oda is greedy AF. Remember when he said he'd like to get an ATM right next to his house(more like mansion)?

I guess he thought to himself "if I manage to incorporate all my creative ideas as a one piece arc I'll get even more ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ and don't have to compromise on my ideas"

One Piece is an old af series in the magazine it's published in and who knows what shonen jump might do once it's actually reached its last chapter. They might never recover, as can be seen by how quickly they axe new series by unknown artists. Add the general pressure on print media. Shonen Jump is a dying magazine.

Or they just rebrand themselves as the One Piece magazine altogether and exclusively pump out spinoffs, character centered novels, manga adaptions of said novels, non canon material (ApprovedByOda™ to boost sales). And 20 years from now their main readership will be 50 year old One Piece fans buying it for nostalgia.

After that, there is gonna be a Thriller Bark-Style Final Arc where it's only SHs & few Characters,

Story of One Piece = First Hundred Chapters (East Blue) + Final Hundred Chapters (Both focusing on SHs & their Dreams)
Everything between them (This entire Grand Line Adventure) is just Filler,

I mean look at the Treasure itself, the entire World is shaped to encourage you to only enter Grand Line from Reverse Mountain, and must follow Log Pose, and must go through Fish-Men Island & must reach Lodestar Island ... etc even though Roger had to Re-Do his Journey after doing all this, showing that this entire Grand Line Adventure isn't necessary for One Piece, but it's necessary for Understanding it, it's like the World itself was designed to encourage you to Travel from Reverse Mountain to Lodestar Island, even though all you had to do was search for Four Stones,
(Rayleigh too told SHs that They might not reach the Same Conclusion as them)

Same applies to Story, SHs are just Witnesses of different Stories presented as Arcs, and They must go through this Journey to be considered "Ready" for whatever comes after, so this whole Adventure is just what Oda wants to draw & show to both you as Reader & SHs as Characters,

The lord of the rings saga should be only the 2 pages when they explain what the ring is, the chapter in The Hobbit when Bilbo finds it and the chapter when they destroy it.

The Start & Finish focus on SHs, while GL Adventure is for them to play more as Spectators & witness other Characters having more Focus,
Lord of The Rings Main Cast is mostly the same from Start to Finish (or Split into Two if you want to be more specific),
