You know I had the same though last night. What if Joyboy was actually a nickname like Strawhat for luffy. Why would it be Joyboy? Because of the Nika fruit the as we saw make Luffy in Nika form lough a lot and almost uncontrollably.
So what would his name be? It could be Davy Jones indeed. Why? Well we know Joyboy was the first pirate and we know Davy was coursed by the devil himself because he was to greedy well what if coursed meant defeated in the end like we know.
The story in the end is passed down and variation can be made and the result was what we know now with all the alteration done to it.
Also the davy back fight might have been a recruitment method done by Joyboy silly games to convince people to join him
