Chapter Discussion What is God in the Jojo universe?

Full spoilers for every part

Jesus Christ exists in part 7, DIO’s goal was to reach Heaven, God is in the volcanos of Hawaii, intelligence and consciousness are fundamental properties of the universe, Fate is on the side of justice, the afterlife is made up of lingering shades, intelligent design created separate evolutionary paths of humans in both the original universe and the new one with Pillar men and Rock people.

These are the few things that hint at God, as a concept existing, in the Jojo universe. The question then becomes, what’s his nature?

The easy thing to say is that it’s the Christian God of the Bible since Jesus exists but we don’t have Jesus himself saying he’s the son of God in the Jojo universe so we shouldn’t just assign our real world understanding of the Christian Jesus to this Jesus.

I think the latest chapter mixed with everything else we’ve seen across all jojo indicates that God in this universe does exist but he’s not a ‘He’ of any kind. It’s one of those situations where God isn’t a personification like any of the major religions indicate. It’s more like God is nature itself. Phenonmena themselves are God. The laws of physics themselves are God.

There is a sort of intelligence to God but it’s not like how we assign “the Ten commandments are the word of God” type intelligence. The Jojo God can’t make commands and doesn’t use words and doesn’t have some code of ethics. Even when it’s stated by characters that Fate is on the side of Justice, it’s simply those characters’ bias that their winning must be Fate’s decision when the opposite is true as well, the unjust also claim Fate is on their side when they too are winning.

In Jojolands, God is expressed as the Lava and the lightning and the mechanism of wealth and human desire all in one. God is basically Everything. And people too can come as close to God as possible without being the “purported Son of God” such Johnny Joestar becoming as saintly Jesus himself.
