Character Discussion What is Kuzans role in the story going forward?

Honestly after seeing Wano, I think Kuzans role in the Blackbeard Pirates is just a very straight forward: He’s Blackbeards ally.

He doesn’t have an ulterior motive or secret agenda, he likely joined up with Blackbeard for the sake of his own dream and after the World Government backed a psycho like Sakazuki over him, he very likely lost faith in the WG.

As such, I think he’ll be the “Big Mom” of the Blackbeard Arc (just much more capable) in the manner that he’ll fight someone not in the straw hats but is allied with him.

Best options for who would fight him would be one of the following
Luffys Pirate Rivals:
Kid
Law

The Revolutionary Army leader:
Dragon

The marine who’ll become “Luffys Garp”:
Smoker
Coby

Or like in Wano, two people will team up to fight him.

I just think with Oda looking to wrap up the story, he likely doesn’t have any plans to create a Kuzan side plot outside of his reason for joining Blackbeard.

Interesting, you think he's become evil?

I think Aokiji is working with Sword/leading Sword. To me, the split between Akainu and Aokiji was more severe than we expected.

The Marines were told that if they defeated Whitebeard, the world would become more peaceful. What actually happened? Whitebeard's death caused great chaos, with Blackbeard gaining territory, and many pirates attacking islands once protected by WB. All of that death. All of that loss. Just to make things worse.

The disillusioned Marines will side with Aokiji/Garp/Sengoku, and we'll see a great schism, IMO.

I do think he’s allied to see what the one piece is, I feel like Law will do the same (since he’s interested in the D clan history) w the strawhats so they could fight each other when strawhats and bb pirates clash (Law and Kuzan’s fight could be inconclusive). We know Kuzan is a good natured person so I doubt there’s any evil intentions. I think many believe Kuzan will try to attack BB for him to get killed and have his fruit taken but I think of how he just took an L to Akainu I don’t think Oda will do him like that.

I think there’s a misunderstanding of everyone joining Blackbeard being evil.

In reality I think it’s nothing more than Kuzan completing his character arc. Of all the naval admirals, Kuzan has slowly been losing faith in the Marines. We saw it in Ohara when Kuzan had to kill a good friend of his because of the marines orders.

We saw more of this in Water 7 when Kuzan got robin alone and didn’t capture her or make any moves on her. In a way, Kuzan always had a seed of rebellion against the World Government; however, after their backing of Sakazuki his seed sprouted.

And no this isn’t about revenge like the revolutionary army, this is about Kuzan being filled with questions and only one thing having answers, the one piece. And out of everyone to align with, Blackbeard would be the best one to join as he controls two of the greatest powers in the world and appears to offer the most freedom to his Allies.

Kuzan's future role is "hype tool" for @Blackbeard.
I would rather say, Kuzan is trying to hit two birds with one stone (just like Shanks?) by setting up a mutual assured destruction between BB and the World Government.

The thing is, the D. always brings a storm, and BB is personally adopting Xebec's ideology which threats the World Government the most (hence Im's keeping an eye on him?). So logically, if the World Government destroyed BB so early it would ruin the chance to restructure the government and get rid of the World Nobles who supported Sakazuki, which is the reason why Kuzan left the Marines.

Whether Kuzan dies to Teach after the latter figures he's been outplayed or not, is something i'm fine with either way. Though it would be such a waste since we already know Gura counters Hie so Teach better have a different kind of hypetool lol.

I like this a lot. Kuzan setting things up behind the scenes to turn the Marines into a legitimate force for good, by pitting Pirates and the WG against each other.

If Akainu came to accept the WG is evil (the man's motto is "Absolute Justice"... he has to know the Celestial Dragons have no justice), I could see him working with Kuzan to get him to attack the WG from the outside. If they can't attack from within the Marines, why not attack the WG from outside, using an Admiral pretending to be a defector to the Marines? I think Aokiji hates the WG, but I think he still loves the Marines as a whole.

No. Kuzan actually joining Blackbeard would ruin his character.
He quit the Navy because he didn't want to obey to an authoritarian piece of shit... to join a chaotic piece of shit instead?
Even though Oda rarely kills characters, Kuzan dying to Blackbeard makes much more sense than him just becoming Blackbeard follower
