There is no better recommendation than someone's favorite I guess.

I seldom go by people's recommandations to be honest. I rather do my own research. Even though I'm always keen to listen to people because sometimes they can get you in a niche genre of literature quicker. But this usually happens with people I'm close to in terms of taste. Even though, tastes shall be educated and thus at time changed.

Now that i think about it choosing an anime or a manga is no different in the sense that what appeals to you out of curiosity you are bound to read and enjoy it compared to being recommended.
