Character Discussion When will Smoker appear as a top tier?

#4
I assume, if he were to be top-tier in future, pretty soon. We've had a few cutaways to the SWORD guys, wouldn't be surprised if 1. Smoker is now a member of SWORD or that,
2. Smoker attempts to rescue Garp (maybe with the assistance of someone like Fujitora, he strikes me as a SWORD type character), and he wouldn't do that unless he had made significant progress

Wouldn't be surprised if he's pulled back into the fold through the Garp storyline, so, basically, whenever we see more of that

Next time Smoker appears, he will be YC1 bare minimum

Smoker is a rival to Luffy. Even if Luffy has far surpassed him, Oda will still keep him at least relative to Zoro and Sanji. This is how Kid, Law, and Sabo are treated. Smoker is just the marine equivalent of those characters.

Smoker already showed decent haki feats in PH, and that was many arcs ago.

A logia with any form of advanced haki is going to be busted. Look at Katakuri for reference, and he wasn’t even a true logia.

Smoker will be above Coby in the final war but he will still be a far cry from top tier.

I don’t know if he’ll show up as a top tier but I can see him reaching admiral level when the series ends.

I think he’ll be a key figure in the faction of “Good Marines” which I think will be led by Koby.

Smoker is a logia and Koby probably awakened ACoC in hachinosu.

They should both be comparable to admirals in the finale, especially because admiral level will basically be meaningless by then, as the main villains will be Imu and the Gorosei.

Gorosei are not even above the Admirals in power so this is just a weird statement to make.

It's too early for Coby who is still significantly below someone like Dressrosa Zoro, and it's too late for Smoker unfortunately. Fujitora essentially replaced Smoker's would be role, was just more convenient for Oda to give that role to an established top tier.

The Gorosei are extensions of Imu himself.

The full power of the Gorosei is when Imu is directly controlling them. That’s basically their purpose.

We saw how Imu-Saturn could fight all the legends at once. That’s probably a clue as to how steep the powercreep will be.

As for Koby and Smoker, Oda isn’t going to sideline longstanding characters that have existed since the east blue for bums like Greenbull and Fuji that were only introduced post skip. GB didn’t even make an appearance until 1000 chapters into the story.

Next time we see them, Koby will just have ACoC and Smoker will probably just have logia awakening/adv haki.

Doesn't matter if they're being sidelined or not, we're talking about the powerscale. They simply are not going to be top tiers in the short timespan remaining. Certainly not at the lvl of an Admiral.

Being a longstanding character is irrelevant. Look no further than the strawhats.
